Occured to me in the lobby while watching meaningless discussion...
Tiered Garage spaces. The higher your rank, the more garage spaces you have...
My preliminary idea (completely unrefined and without more than a few minutes consideration)
Midshippman starts at 1 slot. All ranks progress by 1 slot in the garage each. Higher ranks (GA, M, CM) may possess more than one slot for the rank-up privilage.

Sounds like a good way to keep people out of supply ships and other support role ships to me. all of the high level people are going to be stuck in their dreads like now and the low level people wont want to give up their combat ability for supply ship... in other words.. very bad idea

uhhh cory....i think there are rank requirements for support ships, not too big, but by the time you get there you should have 5 spaces (Lieutenant commander around) (midshipman +1, ensign+1, 2nd lieutenant+1, 1st lieutenant+1, lieutenant commander+1) so you have room for 2 dessies, a frig, and still have room for a suppy and builder. or since not many build take the builder out and put a scout or frig in.
support ships:
suppy
engi (very few lowbies have one, alot of lowbies dont realize building is good early pres maker)
tranny (like someone is gonna keep that in garage, but u need a free space to spawn so ill include)
no/not many lowbie willingly flies ew so im not including
by 1st rear admiral you should have 8 garage slots, and by fleet admiral you have 11, chief marshal at 14
also gives small incetive for ranking to marshal/chief marshal, but values should be adjusted for all ranks

Don't they already have plans, or have implemented paying for more garage space?

if we follow a +1 space per rank non subscribing CM will have 14 slots, Grand Admiral will have 12
if this seems too many slots, we could adjust values to a balanced solution
if its too many we could either make higher ranks earn more slots per rank, or make more slots on lower ranks
lower rank more slots:
could go +2 (midshipman) +1 +1 +1 +1 +0 +1 +0 +0
ect until we reach 12 or so max at CM
this makes lowbies able to have more support ships in garage
higher rank more:
+1 +1 +1 +0 +0 +0 ect
this gives lowbies modest slots to choose support ships, but would ideally give cms and marshals more of a boost
again, numbers can be subject to change according to balance, and the devs might not even consider above patterns

low lvls need roomnto do the tedious tasks as the highgher ranks fight.
got me far with the suppy.

theres a rank requirement for suppies, by the time you reach it you should have room for one, as there are only a few good lowbie combat ships

I don't really like the idea of garage spaces being based on rank, personally. My preference is what we've been internally floating: a set number (6-10) with up to X (10?) more purchasable either one-off or with a small recurring fee. Not that we've figured out what to do yet. But somehow this idea just doesn't appeal to me.

Like I originally said - this was a rough idea. Going back over it, it was also a bad idea.
The thought of paid slots is appealing though. If you guys haven't, you might consider a progressive cost for expansion slots.
EX:
9th Slot, $5.00 one time
10th Slot, $8.00 one time
11th Slot, $12.00 one time
upto a max of say... 15 slots, with #15 costing like $30.00 orso.
Thoughts on this variation?

I think that would definately add some serious revenue to the game for those prices lol.. would be arond 100 bucks for all the spaces according to my random guesstimation.

I agree, the game obviously needs revenue so you guys can buy new servers and stuff to keep the game running smoothly.
Could we possibly add things like purchasable vanity decals for ships and such?

@LM, There has been talk of things of that nature for a long time. If you want to bring it up, toss up a thread for it bud (or look for anything existing, I'm sure there is one somewhere).
