Hi,
I have a problem getting the update. It always says: "Error: failed to open registry". Does anybody know this problem and know how to fix it?

Have you tried reinstalling DS?

Did you also delete the palestar registry entries in the registry? I think they are not removed when you uninstall the game. If they are somehow messed up even a reinstall (without deleting the reg entries first) will not help.
Kindest regards
Yidam

Sounds to me like either...
Your running W2K under the non-admin account, meaning you can't modify the registry.
or
Your registry is corrupt.
Whatever it is, if you figure it out post it here so we can fix the problem, thanks.

Wow, I'm 2nd Lieutenant now, without getting the game started. Maybe I'm getting points for installing the game ?! *gg* I hope it doesn't take until I'm Fleet Admiral before I get into it.
Well, I did everything on the list till recieving updates and it says "Error: Failed to open registry"
I found some failures in the bootlog. Could they be responsible for my problem? They are:
LoadFailed = ndis2sup.vxd
DEVICEINITFAILED = TWKMS
INITCOMPLETEFAILED = SDVXD
Dynamic loading failed nuwave.drv:[000199AC] File not found
(I'm not sure if this is spelled correct, because I translated it from german.)

Ok, that's to much !!! I reinstalled Settlers 4 and the BBGC now, which I had deinstalled. And what's the result of all of it? I now have the same error there! I don't know why, because I manually installed the latest update. The fact is, I can't get into the BBGC anymore.
Oh, if I get this guy into my fingers, who made that suggestion... (just a joke )
Any further suggestions?

Try reinstall network drivest thats if
on lan drivers to nic
drivers to modem or reuter (Isdn or DSL)
Send the bootlog Stony

Are you running W2k?
I know NT based system have security as to which programs are allowed to store values into the registry. If you are sharing your machine with someone else, and they created your account without admin priviledges I think you would get this exact error.
Basically, only the admin of the computer is allowed to install/uninstall software.
