Old news . . . but I wanted to let Faustus know that this bug is still alive.
Not your normal laggy, everything coming to a standstill, wait, kicked from game type event. This one gives no indication that anything is wrong, happens instantaneously, gives no error message and you can rejoin game without rebooting.
I haven't been able to tie it to any one thing that I am doing at the time, or to events happening around me. FYI.

Check for newer drives at www.nvidia.com ..
For some reason, their drivers are always more stable and better than those from the manufacturer of your card.

Thanks Faustus.
I omitted in specs that I am using the v12.41 WHQL drivers now.
I've checked what I know and believe I have latest drivers and firmware for all hardware in my system.

i dislike that very much - faustus - but you are right again
since a lot of month i have least problem`s with the (beta)driver`s from NVidia
if i use the driver`s from (in my case) ASUS - there are some (more) problem`s
-for the moment (hopefully) not in DS but - just as a example:
if i play EF (multi) with 12.90 (NVidia) everything`s fine
if i take the 12.90 (ASUS) i can play with no problem`s either but after ending/logging out, my PC crashes into nirvana and i have to reboot
so - listen to faustus

Oh man I really HATE this bug! I was about to cap the last planet on a new map (to everyone there maybe some of you have played it). This map mentioned something about: if the UGTO win, we can then hear the ICC's pleas for surrender or something.
So I begin orbiting that last planet and poof! Back to desktop I go. Bah lol.

I too have experienced this bug. One thing I have noticed, there are times when there are several people kicked at once. Your chat screen is filled with so and so has disconnected. Not sure what causes it, but I have noticed it happening while no fighting is going on...once while several of us where in line for resupply. Everyone but me got booted.

I also get this bug. sometimes after the game shuts off I will get the following error message - "An error occurred while running Darkspace". Sometimes I will get no error message at all, it simply shuts off and that's that. Typically I can start darkspace right back up and continue playing, however every so often (maybe 1 time in 6 crashes) I will get another error message which says "Internet Explorer has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down". Which vexes me greatly since I didn't think I was using internet explorer (I'm guessing DS is tied to I.E. somehow?). Unfortunately, if this error message pops up it's Reset time, as it locks my cpu up hard.
Anyone else have this happen to them?

Sunday Aug 19, 2:45PST.
The latest update kicked us off of the server, had us patch. But when we tried to log back in - it kicks us to desktop after 5 seconds. For me and a few others it crashes Win98's explorer and requires a total shut down wait 5 sec - restart.
win98se, all windows updates
MSI nvidia geforce2mx 400 32meg w/det3.v12.41
Giga-byte 6vx7-4x mobo, p3 933, 320mb

Glim, I had this same problem yesterday where I would only be in the game a few minutes, barely time to setup my weapons and I'd get booted.
The problem is, can't tell if the server went down or lost connection with it or the client crashed.
Anything we should be looking for Faustus to tell the difference? Should we be sending you the debug.mis, etc everytime we crash?

I've run into this same situation. Most of the time it happens when combat is occuring. I don't need to be involved or even in the same system. I'm off capping a planet at the other end of the galaxy, I hear a war is going on and boom...desktop. As Cuisinart states above, about 1 in 6 times my sys totally crashes with BSoD and requires reboot. Usually though I can restart DS without any problem and jump right into lobby. I have newest Nvidia drives and stable system in general (PIII 500, 32Mb Vid, 256Mb RAM). I'm running an enterprise version of Norton Anti-Virus which was causing problems when I first started way back when but seems to have remedied itself after numerous updates. Might this still be a problem?
