If you are having problems running DarkSpace on the Windows Vista operating system, please read below:
If you are attempting to install under Windows Vista, then you are probably encountering a feature of Vista known as UAC, or User Account Control. This can prevent the DarkSpace Lobby client from correctly updating certain items when it attempts to check for new files.
If you have installed DarkSpace into the default "Program Files" directory, then I would suggest you Uninstall the client, and then re-install it in a brand new directory, such as "C:PaleStarGameCQ"
This is because the "Program Files" directory in Windows Vista has some additional protections that prevent numerous pre-Vista programs from installing and updating as they usually would. This step is not essential, but may help for some users.
After a successful installation you will need to right click the "GameCQ" or "DarkSpace" shortcut, and select "Run as Administrator". This should then allow DarkSpace to download and update the necessary files as needed.
Alternatively you can try right-clicking on the GameCQ.exe file in the actual GameCQ installation directory, select Properties, click on the Security tab and tick the "Run as Administrator" box. It should be an option down the bottom. Again, this is not essential, but may work for some users that are having problems with the previous step.
If you have already installed DarkSpace outside of the "Program Files" directory, then you simply need to set it to "Run as Administrator", and it should work normally from there on.
If you are getting the message Failed to launch ClientSetup.exe, and have tried all of the above, it may be worth rebooting your PC. This has been reported to work for some users.
I hope this helps.

Not to contradict what was already posted here, but you can get a stable running game just by firing up darkspace as an administrator. To do that, just right click on the shortcut, select properties, then click on the compatibility tab. Down at the bottom, there is a checkbox for "run this program as an administrator", so check that box. Click OK and then run your game as normal.
I got this working in Vista Home Premium SP 1.
Hope that helps.

I haven't been able to play DS since I put on VISTA 64, now Window 7 64.
I do not have the UAC, and I did all the 'Run as Admin' stuff.
Currently I get the lobby, and when I click on a game the screen flashes black, then goes back, but I hear the game sound and my mouse pointer is gone.
How do I get around this?

I'm guessing it's probably a DirectX or graphics driver issue. I've been running W7 x64 since November and have had no issues.

| Run in windowed mode in DarkSpace Setup.
[Launch] Tab, double click "DarkSpace Setup"
