1) Make sure the following updates are uninstalled:
* Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6/7 for Windows XP (KB944533)
* Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer (KB947864)
2)
Turn off auto updates.
start -> control pannel -> Windows Security . Click on where it says "Manage securtiy settings for: Automatic Updates" Select the tick box for anything but the first one (where it says download and install automatically)
save all changes.

there is an IE update that you have to uninstall and make sure it doesnt re-install itself. Otherwise the GCQL application will crash. There are several topics about this on the forum, ways to block the update and ways to get in the MV without entering the lobby. You should read them up!

Right, make sure you really did uninstall that update correctly. I did it once, and it (the update) reappeared on restart, so just look to make sure it really was uninstalled.

There are two security/IE updates that are causing the problem. Did you uninstall both of them?

Well, considering i'm in the lobby right now, I find that hard to believe. Do you have a firewall, router?

dont have to shut it down, depending on your firewall.
just open up a couple ports.
