Everything I do in the game lags like hell I can't do a thing and I have no idea why. I have 512mb of R.a.m and a 2.8g processor with a 100mpp connection I can't see why it would lag at all. Everything I place my cursor over anything it stops and i am unable to move it for at least 15 seconds. the game loads up fine. When I do manage to get ingame everything lafs there aswell. everything takes ages to do. I but the set up to low with no music at all. Why would it still lag.

If you have low FPS(=frames per second), it's likely to be an issue with your video card.
If the screen responds, ie. you can click on this and rotate camera, then it's likely a serverside issue or a problem with your ISP.
Also, just because you have a 2,8GHz CPU and/or a 100mbps connection, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's top notch quality, as there are old processors with insane clocks but lack of transistors or the architechture is obsolete. DarkSpace uses so little bandwidth the gameplay quality is same whether you have a 1mbps or 100mbps connection.
To find out if it's an issue with your ISP, try tracerouting metaverse and see the amount of hops between you and the server. Usually more than 20-25 hops starts to cause a detrimental experience.
Tracerouting, how to:
Windows 98?/2000/XP:
1. Open "Start".
2. Open "Run".
3. Type "cmd".
4. In the black commandline window, type tracert cygnus.palestar.com .
Windows Vista:
1. Open "Start".
2. Type "cmd" in the live search tab on the bottom of the list.
3. In the black commandline window, type tracert cygnus.palestar.com .
Furthermore, you should ensure that you dont have an excessive amount of other programs running in the background simulnateously, and that your software/hardware firewall is not being overzealous with the ports 9000-9101, but this likely is NOT the case.
You could also call your ISP, and ask them if they are shaping or throttling the traffic of ports from 9000 to 9101.
If it is not an internet connection related problem;
Reply here with your video card/chipset model and/or name, whatever info you have available of it, and I'll try to figure out if it's compatible.
Also, make sure your video card is not overheating. I'm sure you will notice it though as it will often cause the whole system to crash.
If you are using a NVidia GeForce 8800 GTX or similar ultra-highend graphics card, you might want to force vertical synchronization from the NVidia Control Panel, as it will keep the framerates from skyrocketing and overheating the GPU.
Inside the game, you can use the button combination Alt + P to open a readout on the left of the screen which displays your current framerate and latency.

Ok my graphics card is a Sis 661fx/gx mirage graphic.
After doing that command line thing I have 25 hops.
and while I play I have nothing in the background.

This specific graphic chipset is not designed with 3D internet games such as DarkSpace in mind, eventhough it's capable of initializing them, it does not pack enough punch for it most of the time.
I believe you can, however, find a NVidia GeForce 6600GT or similar graphics card, such as ATi Radeon x1600 for a fairly cheap price. Just make sure it goes into an AGP 8x port, instead of PCI or PCI-e.
SiS 661 FX Mirage GFX supports only DirectX7 through hardware, DX8 and 9 are through software, meaning it's very inefficient as DarkSpace is currently using DirectX8.

you can find radeon 9800's for 10 bucks or less, and they do a damn fine job running darkspace.

9800's are obsolete now though, might as well get something that will last.
My 9200 is ancient, I even know I'd need a big kicker.

I guess it would not considering it is in my very immobile PC that is currently and will stay connected to a network that does not let me play DarkSpace.
Now my laptop has a X600 in it, it seems to play fine. Although, I put everything on low just because it is a laptop.
