LinkSys LNE100TX (v5) solution? |

I have read that players with the aforementioned net card were having problems playing, well, I checked, and lo and behold, the PC I have been trying to play with from work, has the LNE100TX(v5) card installed.
Gee, no wonder the PC would spontaneously reboot as soon as the lobby loaded, every single time.
Are there any solutions?
Could this card also cause the same affects with other games? We have been trying to play Medal of Honor, and the machine will sometimes reboot as soon as you would start playing.
We are running w2k Pro, on a LAN, with a DSL connection, behind a firewall. (I'm the network admin)
1) Is there a solution to playing with the LinkSys card mentioned above?
2) Could this card produce similar effects with other games?

I think someone said before, there is an option in XP which concerns what the OS does in case of a driver/hardware failure. I think they said the default action was to reboot the machine.
This just explains the reboots, but doesn't fix the problem between the driver and the hardware.
DarkSpace uses TCP instead of UDP which most games use, which is why you might experience crashes in DarkSpace but not in other games. Since the TCP implementation is done probably at the driver level.

Yes, but, as I stated, I'm using Win 2k Professional, not XP. Same difference in this case? I have never seen that option.

Also, if this was a network card/driver issue, would it cause a spontaneous reboot when trying to run the tutorial too?
Cause it does.
AMD 1.4
256mb DDR
Nvidia Riva TNT2 Model 64 32mb (I know, i know, its a work PC)
DSL
W2k Pro
Net card mentioned above
SBLive!
On LAN behind firewall (no, disabling the firewall altogether doesnt help)
I can reproduce it each and every time, so easily that I can snap my fingers at the exact moment the reboot occurs.
Does the LinkSys card (v5) have the same problems I have read about the (v4) having?

Ok, I found the post where it outlines the option for automatic reboots on system failure. Thank goodness! Now then, instead of a total reboot, I get a stack dump (w2k/NT BSOD), with hex addresses, and this message:
"Driver_IRQL_not_less_or_equal"
Is this a network card issue as outlined about LinkSys LNE100TX(v5)?
(Also happens with tutorial and server application)

as i mentioned all worked fine til the 4th this month - looks like part of the routines of C++ (networking) having problems generally - i had this problem on saturday (msg: invalid serverversion after being in the batlobby) - solution was to overwrite the whole palestar-folder with backup - that fixed it.

obviously this card has sh*tt* drivers
I'd suggest to buy a new network card (different brand)
10-20$ shouldn't be a big deal, in particular regarding all the trouble.
this is a rather common phenomina/problem:
even with bad drivers/hardware,
sometimes everything seems to work fine.
but when "pushing" software (software stressing hardware a lot) it fails.
it's obviously that it SEMES as if that software is to blame for the troubles.
but that's not 100% true.
btw: I'm using network cards with 8139 chips
cause they are very chip, good and I know win2k/xp/98 driver works perfectly

wow.. and I thought I was having a video card problem...
I have the v4 of this linksys card. I too can snap my fingers the second the machine is about to spontaniously reboot. Always while it is downloading the catalog and it gets to 11.8kb.
well.. this sucks. so now i gotta go buy another card eh? *lame* I have an ancient ethernet card laying around here somewhere. I will pop that in and post the result.

Yep. Confirmed that the linksys card was my problem. I swapped it with an old no-name card and DS runs like a charm.
This is a major bug on Linksys's part. Especially on such a seemingly mature piece of hardware.

damn
I'm not buying a new network card, these people need to fix their game!

the problem is the network card not the game... there is nothing to be fixed on the games part...

Why does this game use TCP instead of UDP if most games use UDP (without any problems)? This is the only game I've ever had problems with my Linksys NIC. I don't mind a crash (even if it's win2k) every once in a while, but when it wipes my ZoneAlarm Known Programs settings, causing me to have to reapprove every single last damned program that wants to connect to the network, I have major problems.

You should only have to open port 9000-9005 (most commonly used ports by the servers) for TCP traffic.

because it doesn't make sense to use UDP here. it's as simple as that.
nonsense, most use TCP.
for most of those few UDP's it's nonsene to use UDP. (e.g EQ)
just throw that damned linksys card out of the window if they can't make working drivers.
the crash is NOT DS's fault.

Additionally, UDP has major problems working through firewalls... DS has none of them because we use TCP, which is universally more reliable.
