My friend has a Compaq computer with a s3graphics prosavage DDR. when he gets into Darkspace his ship will not turn or when it does it jumps from place to place, He has no control over it whatsoever. He just got verizon DSL and the same problem happens. Does anybody know what the problem is. If its the prosavage what can we do to fix or change the sit.

a bit strange all in all
on wich OS you "drive"??
i know, the prosavage is not what i would call a "high-speed" VID-solution
do you have it on the laptop - or is it a desktop-solution??
first step i would take (if not notebook) is to install a vid-card in the AGP-slot and, if needed, deactivate the onboard-chip
keep me informed - tnx.

Do u have installed DirX8x ?
I encountered a similar problem, when I forgot to install DirX on a clean, new system before starting DS.
There was no warning, that I had not installed DirX

It may also be a packet loss problem with his net connection, a way of finding out if its his network connection is for him to try playing the tutorials and see if he has the same problem (since the server the tutorial gets hosted on is your own computer).
As others said check the directx version, i would recommend the final version of dx 8.1 and also make sure his video card drivers are up to date.

Oh ya also run the video card thru the directx tests (click on start, run, then enter in dxdiag).
Odds are though that he will need to pick up a proper video card and disable the onboard video if its not a internet connection problem (i have yet to see an onboard video solution that was at all good for gaming)

Check your Hardware Manager and see that you don't have your video card driver uninstalled and also try updating. In fact, I suggest updating all drivers from your computer manufactor. One of the drivers that compaq released ( I know cause I owned one) really screwed up DirectX when you went to play games.

I think regardless of your gfx card, or even if you unplug your internet connection while playing, you'll still be able to turn your ship for some time until it times out.
Maybe the keyboard got remapped (either by the OS or within darkspace) ?

I think your internet connection doesn't mind if you use a mouse, keyboard, stick or wheel for input
Maybe you've your LAN-Card on the same interrupt as your mouse or some other crap that shouldn't happen ...

Well setup doesn't run unless you have direct X, and DS "shouldn't"/normally doesn't run unless you've run setup...
So serapis, i don't know how you ran it with out Direct X... er yeah
