Wtf is that?? it wont let me play! theres nutting wrong with the settings i have, please help me... what do do??

Make sure that between the time you press Play to launch the client/connect to the server and actually having the client window come up, don't switch to any other windows.
Also, got o Start > Programs > DarkSpace > DarkSpace, select Setup and press OK.

ok, i've tried almost every setting and still it seems tohave the same problem i dont know whats wrong...
this is the resulution setting i currently have:
0:3D Rage LT Pro 800x600x32
i dont know if that can help but please help me fix the problem!

It seems that ppl with ATI cards still have a lot of problems connecting to the lobby or servers. Perhaps we can collect all available info for ATI users (known bugs, troubleshooting,..)

I was getting that same message until I re-installed my video drivers. Then a few days later I installed a different driver and was getting that message again.
So I entered setup, changed the res from 1024x768 to 800x600 thinking maybe the resolution was the problem as the message said. I joined a server and it worked. So I quit, put res back to 1024 and it's been working ever since.
I know you said you tried that in chat and it didn't work, but maybe someone else will have this work for them =)

ATI Rage cards aren't that great so they can't push as much graphics like some of the other cards... you should try doing 800x600x16 as 32 bit textures are probably causing some slowdowns and problems and 16 bit will have a better performance anyway...
what you might try is getting your lastest drivers and then putting your video card to the lowest possible grphx settings and see if that works.. if it does then slowly but surely start enabling options until it works like you want or stops working... so then you can find your limit and optimize your settings from there...

now im getting that problem too. it was working fine before except it had the graphical glitch but then i updated my driver and thats what it said. now i tried reinstalling darkspace and it says "the GCQL.EXE file is linked to missing export
GCQ.DLL:?onfileprogress@mirrorclient@medusa@@UAEXPDKK@Z."

I have the same prob with ds!!!!
Always i become this two messages when i join to tutorial or in a other open game:

I join and 2-10 seconds later my win2k freezed that i must make a reboot!!!
I try not all drivers but the most of them...
the new 21.x the 12.x the 14.x and the 6.50
of detonator!!!!
No Chance for me!!!

Well what you can do is check your client setup for video modes. Sometimes there is only "windowed" meaning DS can't find any valid video modes. In this case you should restart your machine or install your grafics driver again or install Darkspace again
(you can download the new installer which is almost up-to-date).

Same Prob - Black screen.
DS works with the 12.41 for Win2k, but not with the 21.81.
I think, the Graphical-Support needs some fixes ...

Im getting a "Failed to initialize display" error and it sees my card and I have the res set to 600x800 16 bit and I have a 3Dlabs Permedia 2 3D accelerator with up-to-date drivers and just to see if it would work I got the openGL drivers as well any help would be good thanks

the latest driver dosn't work go to ATI web->support->drivers choose the driver for ure ATI type and OS - do not choose the one on top use the second one i think it is july, this one works.
the rage 64DDR i use for game is set to 1600x1200x32 so i think that's sufficent enough for gaming.
