Currently DS supports a lot of older systems. For example, I play DS now on the same desktop I've had since 2004. These new compresed textures however, while sounding like will make things work even better on my system while I build my new one...well, the client dies about 10 seconds into loading.

I know the dev team needs more data to diagnose things, but I was curious if anyone else is having problems.

Graphics cards from all the way back to 2002 have support for DXT compression. Me thinks you're crashing due to something else.

Very possible. GPU is a 9600 Pro 128mb. Not...exactly the greatest, but it's been reliably good for DS thus far. Can't log in to beta at all though. Prod release is fine.

I'll dig out my old case and try it with my 9800 XT tomorrow.

Pings won't work for saturn... it's running here at my house and I doubt my cable modem is letting pings through.

DXT can come not enabled. On my old, old card (which was like, a 1650 or somethig) some games wouldn't work because of this.

Some digging around, and I figured out that while alot of cards support DXT, they don't always have that support actually enabled, as asinine as that sounds.

Since I couldn't remember exactly how I did it, I went searching From many google searches, in ATI's CCC you can find them in the 3D settings. A simple checkbox will do it.

Thats all the help I can offer though.

I tried beta last yesterday and while i tried it on my old computer and it supports the new compressed textures, i lagg much more then i lagg usual on that computer.
Loading times are were also much slower.
So it seems to me that the new textures stress the graphics card considerable more then currently the case in the released version of the game.

So is the above because the beta still has to be optimized,
or are the minimum requirements to play darkspace no longer valid and does the minimum required graphics card have to be increased?
