perhaps maybe on command ships to make them more useful is to have a little bar alongisde hull and armour to help detect ships either under ECM or k'luth cloak say a ship would approach and as it does the meter would go up in rating and to counter this the brood would have to have a device to counteract this...this is not signature this is different as the diamond would not show only that you know that a ship is incoming.

Well such think is useles. U just know that it aproaches, but u dont know what direction so its the same think as u dont have that abilyty. To make such think would be just a waste of time.

no it wouldn't be useless as it would be usefull when k'luth are around but you need to know how close they are and this detecter would provide that edge i thought of this as a solution without over nerfing the k'luth cloak

True you would know how close they are but whats the use if u dont know from which direction theill attack. You just know that their close. Maby for ship who would have that ability would be useful but not to others. And during the fight against luth u already know that they are somewhere around. And u can ping. Ping is even more useful than this. Only for ships which main weapons can shoot at enemies which is in front of the ship and have just few weapons in the reare would be wery useful. Well thats just my opinion.

And what good would it give if u know that luth is close? This ability only would help to escape. Doring battle it would be wery usefull.

You mean to make a device that acts as a geiger counter for cloaked ships? Something that gets 'louder' or 'bigger' based on the following factors:

1) Cloaked ship size.
2) Cloaked ship proximity.
3) Cummulative effect with additional ships.

This device would not give information on number, range or direction, but simply knowledge of presence. A strong reading would indicate either a small ship at close range or perhaps many small ships at moderate range, or a large ship at long range, for example.

This reading could be either in the form of actual audio clicks (geiger counter style) or as a new bar to sit along side hull, armor and signature.

This is an inventive approach to the 'kluth cloak is unbreakable' problem. Other solutions proposed have been too extreme, either making you easily directly detectable or completely untouchable. This solution makes you modestly detected, permitting the attacking kluth the security that his exact location is unknown, while permitting the defenders to at least be on their guard.

This reading would be entirely the knowledge of the ship with the device and he would have to share this information via text chat or voice chat with his allies. Perhaps some other, more clever means of sharing the detection info could be devised, like a meter bar under the pilot name of the ship, so others could see the magnitude of your detection device by looking at you/your ship.

I like this idea.

It will help.

Sometimes you waste your ping wondering if a Kluth is nearby. And during the cooloff period, a Kluth does manage to close in and get the drop on you.

Now at least you'll know when there's no one around and you don't need to randomly ping.

But first you'll have to analyze how this would work, from
a game mechanics perspective.
