Intro: Piotr-San and Krim decided to test the new Beta System damage. And see exactly how nerfed EMP was, and how nerfed Fluxwave will be..
Setup:
UGTO Interceptor Frigate
4x EMP Cannon
1x Flux Wave
(Everything Else Standard)
ICC Minelayer Frigate
No Armor Left/Right
Sheilds Off
Testing:
1x EMP Cannon = 15% Damage to 1 System
2x EMP Cannon = 10% Damage to 2 System
4x EMP Cannon = 10% Damage to 1 System
Fluxwave at 150gu = 3% to 1 system, 2% Hull damage
Fluxwave at 50gu = 15-20% to 1 system, 5% hull damage
Fluxwave Pointblank (less than 10gu) = 0% System damage, 6% hull dam
Discussion:
Almost All damage was repaired in less than 3 seconds. The Cooldown on EMP cannons is 5 Seconds between firing (including the firing of the weapon itself) Which means that any damage that was done, would be repaired before the next volley even hit.
The Testing eviroment prevented us from getting out larger ships to test thier effectivness. Or to test Heavy EMP. We would suggest in the future having a pre-built map, to allow for testing of larger vessels without having to do the building gruntwork. It's beta, it should be easy to test, not a PITA.
Also. AI makes it extremly difficult to test, when you're trying to do something in peace, or say... refit a ship with gadgets, but you cant, because the planet is blockaded. or a ship jumps into your testing and fires a volley messing things up. Can we get a nice Beta map with no AI also?
Conclusion:
Fluxwave is nearly useless. For a weapon that has a 50sec cooldown, does little to no damage, and must be used on a exposed hull arc, not to mention only one is equipped on each ship. Really? Get rid of it and give me more space for a QST. Fluxwave about to be nerfed? It already is.
EMP? Useless now too. Even if you managed to mount a full Battledread with them. And even if Hvy EMP's are more effective. You'd have to triple the damage output of our testing to even make using a EMP Boat useful. Despite all this. You can hardly do any hull/armor damage with them anyway. With this Beta change, they will become even more of a useless weapon.
I'm more concerned about the fluxwave, since it's a faction specific "special" weapon. There's nothing special about it. It's a waste of space.
Suggest that the devs test using larger ships (with higher level gadets) to see if they get the same results.
Or give us a map that's free of AI and has terran planets with pre-build shipyards and plenty of resources and we'll test it.

There's a new map up.
Also, I tested a BD with all EMP against a CD and it indeed did only a couple percentage of damage against a single gadget.
In other words, the single gadget code seems to have made both gadgets worthless.

Because it has been nerfed so much...
The old code not only applied the damage to all devices it also multiplied it.
We just have to start incrementally boosting EMP cannons and flux devices to compensate for the new code. [ This Message was edited by: JBud on 2009-10-22 06:48 ]

Review the SVN submissions where EMP damage previously reduced and revert them. The value for EMP cannons in ShipGadgetsBeta.odf located in the SVN documents folder file should be where EMP needs to be restored to.

I reverted, but I'm guessing based on the bug that it won't be enough.
