Dear Tael,

I noticed the new beam effects, and was slightly grossed out.

Presently, ICC, an dI'm assuming UGTO beams all except for the pulse beams are a sort of orange yellow color.

All the K'luth beams, are currently bright green, the same green as the tractor beams.

This, is just wrong. I can live with the ICC and UGTO beams being sort of a mustard color, but GREEN disruptors??! No offense, but it looks hideous.

My suggestion, for the UGTO and ICC

Pulse beams: should be a green color, given their low energy, and the length of the beam before dissapation, being an indicator of frequency.

Standard chem lasers: Should be a normal red beam, again, given the somewhat higher energy, and frequency of the beam.

Heavy Chem Lasers: Well, that orangy yellow color is kind of cool right now for the HCL's. But otherwise, I'd say go with a pinkish red beam pinkish towards the source and at the core, but red towards the end and outside of the beam. This would be typical of a high energy supersonic hydrogen-flouride or oxygen iodine laser.

My suggestion for K'luth Disruptors and ELF beams.

Standard Disruptors, should be the classic yellow color.

Assualt disruptors should be reddish purple, red towards the core, and purple towards the outside.

ELF beams, simply to avoid confusion, should be a simple light blue, with a touch of shimmering white around the edges.

  • - I agree.

  • - To this, I would also agree...

This would be typical of a ultra high intensity supersonic hydrogen-flouride or oxygen iodine laser.

  • - IMO, I would choose more of an intense redish/bluish color, simply for the asthetic affect of it. However in terms with realism, that would be excellent as you have suggested.

  • - I agree to both of these colors, as they reflect the idea behind the K'luth for some strange reason.

  • - Agreed...

All in all, I like this...and its new. So I would favor this...

I would, unfortunately I know nothing of texturing for Darkspace.

I was merely offering my opinion, on some beam colorations that would be more aesthetically pleasing, and simple more interesting than the present ones.

That, I do know a lot about.

So, to the dev team:
Please consider my suggestions.

Thank you

Takes a while to tweak the effects... They appear one way in the resourcer but sometimes appear different in game. Case in point, the Proton Torp effect looked good in the resourcer but the glaring is about 1000 times bigger than it should be in game.

Trying to get it so the beams look more like what gideon did in his little test while at the same time keeping it so you can identify the base class of each beam by its color.

I'll probably play with them some more in a couple of days.

All CL's should be Red...full stop, perhaps HCL's should be a little more whiter...

Disruptors on the other hand, yellow all the way.

HCL's..I believe should have a white middle, and a swirling red sparky thing goin on around it...That'd be sexy.

Can't we pull apart and use Gid's CL textures? I know he wasn't under contract, but maybe if you asked him nicely?

Oh yeah, Gid's Flux beam effect was basically what I was describing for the ELF beams.

His P torp impact effect was gorgeous as well, though the yellow P Torps are kinda cool. I'm not so keen on the red explosion though.

The new AM torp color is great, and the impact effect is cool, but the red color is kind of wierd... why not make it aqua or green so it doesn't clash so much with the torp color.

That'd be sweet...but I dont think madusa can do that .... (unless you have a rotating beam-model..)

Look at the color spectrum, and how waves are maginified, white is the most magnified, then comes blue, and goes all the way to red.

Heavy lasers should be bluish to white.

Weak lasers should purple to red.

Disruptors should remain standard Yellow.

Disruptors have been reverted back to yellow/yellow-orange for higher level. CL's are keeping the red-yellow tint for now...

Lowering the glare on the torp inpacts.

Roughened up the tractor beam image, still green but more chaotic.

Gid's special effects are legacy, non-supported graphics. We don't officially aknowledge them as Palestar work.

Also, Gideon has declined to provide us with his art (I've asked), and thus anything from his pack, or work he may have done at any point in the past, is not something we have access to. And we won't.

Basically: ignore what Gideon did. We don't and won't have it.
