About 10 ships and a few hundred fighters/missles and that was it. Lag totaled the game. Control commands where not happening at all. I hit O to repair at a planet and about 2 mins latter I got the ship destroyed message.

I doubt its his connection.
There were about 10 ships, and some fighters swarming about it. I think i was there with him, or i had it somewhere else. But DS always work fast and fine for me, but this time i had incredible lag.

Well I have 1mb connection (128kbps up) from the UK..with 170 ms ping...and I get zero lag...
So...it has to be your connection, either that or your machine. Most people I know have had no problem in beta, infact...its better than release...

Well.. keep in mind that the beta server is pretty weak compared to any other server, so it just might not be able to handle the load. That'd be my guess, but I can't say for sure - theoretically the better release servers could more easily run things.

Backslash, I don't believe you have been in a good sized furball yet...sorry, but its not my connection or my machine. DS is not the only game I play online and some have hundreds of players (EQ, Asheron's call) and MUCH more intensive cpu and graphics requirments. There is something wrong with DS. I think Mith may have a point but...that don't explain release. F touched on it the other night in the developers meeting. Soemthing in the code is eating cpu time and he has a plan to deal with it. I only posted this to confirm and let F and developers know I (we) are still here trying!

Point is, when the machine hits that 100% mark, EVERY player in the zone experiences the lock up. I havnt experienced any lockups today, nore have other players I've spoken too, which has led me to believe that its something with your connection. You are on a 56k (which arnt that realibable), maybe you should run a few tracerts and ping test, see if its your ISP and contact them to see if they can do anything.
Next time if it happens, take note of what you were doing, it could be something your doing thats generating your lockup. Appart from that, beta's been smooth all day...for me and other people.
(and furball...wth?)

The mass code spikes at 100% occasionally, F is working on that. Also the stress test runs on the oldest and weakest server.

"Furball" Refers to a large number of aircraft from 2 or more opposing sides in combat. DUH.
As for the other stuff you said. YOUR CLUELESS!

I have had lag spikes, but considering the server, its overall performance so far is a lot better than release.

Yes, that is what I experience too. Lasting upto the point I get disconnected or destroyed during combat.

omg backslash do not answer unless you have a clue, it is not my system nor my connection, i have pinged the server many times. average ping around 60, packet loss 0, and trust me my systerm can handle DS in hibernation. it is a ds problem.
