I was like "oh sweeet!"

ERROR!
MFC RUNTIME MODULE
THIS APPLICATION CAN NOT BE LOADED ON WINDOW 95 OR WINDOWS 3.1. IT TAKES ADVANTAGE OF UNICODE ONLY ACIABLE ON WINDOWS NT
ERROR!
ERROR STARTING PROGRAM
The MFC42U.DLL FILE CANNONT START.
CHECK THE FILE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM
....okayy...since i'm running window's ME that bothers me. also, the MV running NT? is that why it needs NT?....

hmmm...interesting.
I had someone ask me about it being incompatible with win 98se, due to something like this.
It is possible that the new UDP code base has moved us to true 32 bit OS compatability only. Windows 95, 95, and ME are 16/32 bit OS, and so lack in a few ways. Windows NT4.0, 2K, and XP are true 32 bit OS, so would be compatible.
Of course, I could be completely off base here. However, if I'm right, I think we really need to update our requirements and let the player base know what is up...

oh darn. does that means everything with '16bit' OS's are going to be left in the dark?

If it's required...
Then it comes down to lag vs compatability.
We will vote to fix lag, every time.

You can try this ?
Right click on the DarkSpaceBeta.exe (before you install it) go down to
properties ,click on that ! Then the 3rd tab over (Compatibility) click on
that ,then check the box that says (run this program in compatibility mode)
then hit the dropdown bar underneath, and highlight Windows 98.

The network code is not contained in 1.481w... it will contain the updates I made to the website while waiting for 1.482 - the w is for website.
There's no update or released beta code as of yet. That's all in 1.482.
Edit: Though since its not going to be released immediately, I think I'll delete the Dev Log entry, to avoid more confusion.

Does anyone else reading this feel completely lost.. or am I the only computer illiterate person who plays this game?

Dauphin, in all basicness they mean that old comps, with old motherboards (16 bit instead of 32) won't be able to play, or am I way off?

Thats about the long and short of it....
i.e. if it won't run on your computer, it's time for a new computer, heh.

The long and short of it is:
There is no update. There was no update, though someone thought there was, and it didn't work. However, his experiences don't necessarily mean anything.
Wait until the real beta patch comes out... then see if you need a new computer..

chromix, is correct. Nothing beta worth testing right now. What is there is a vacant shell of code. Just ignore it.
