When I was playing on the Beta server, I (and several other players) were annoyed to find out that one cannot initiate a jump in the navigation screen -- one must switch back to the normal (tactical) mode.

It has been a practice of mine to set a place on the map to jump to then press "J" instead of going back to the tactical screen, doing so can save precious seconds in battle.

What I am proposing is that the ability to intiate a jump in the navigation screen be put back. It won't hurt if we do that, but it'll reduce a lot of fustration from players who have been used to jumping that way.

No, I heard that the function was taken out by F because it was thought to be of little use.

EDIT: changed content

I guess Faustus is the only DS veteran not jumping in nav screen then

Actually, I can see why it may have been removed. Now that we can jump at any speed, the only sure way to tell that your jumpline will still be white at time of jump is too be moving at 0gu. Jumping at high speeds contains a slight risk in timing that correctly, in a clustered area.

As many us depend on the Navigation screen (and in the absence of a better interface) I would encourage the developers to insure that this feature is retained.

I would also be a big help if the Nav Map did not fade out when you zoom out.

Faustus DID originally remove this feature because he thought that it wasn't being used, but in another thread, after the outcry of most of the community, he said he was going to re-implement it. BUT it is a lower priority then fixing bugs that affect the stability of the servers etc.

Faustus has stated (a few times now) that it WILL be reactivated in v1.481.
