The website definately needs a visual upgrade.

I could make a mock website using various theme's, etc.. see what people think.

I belive the "Create fleet" should change to "Edit fleet" after you have already created your fleet.

Please, less black. I get that we're DarkSpace, but a website with a solid-colour black background is both depressing and feels amateurish. I'd really like to see something that's brighter and more tech-y.

How about new forum software if at all possible? News displayed in a more prominent matter on the front page (also more often but you probably can't do much about that), the silly Twitter-feed actually feeding us the twitter messages on-site?

I got plans for the design, not many but some, it is tech-y though.

That isn't possible to change our forum software, it is really hard to upgrade it because of the changes that have been done to it.

Also got plans for Facebook plugin and twitter feed too. Thing is, Where it put such things which so much content on the site already..?

I'm personally fine with the design, but for a new player, and I've heard this from a couple of my friends, the game seems extremely dull.

First of all, simplicity.

A big obvious "Register" button that's all integrated on the main page.
A big obvious (and hopefully functional) "Click now to play" button that updates and brings one to the MV immediately, perhaps at the same time connecting to a page that has some "how to play" information, with critical info placed first.
Some nice videos and screen shots on the side with some epic music that shows the best aspects of dark space.
An epic background that immerses the player in the dark space universe.
Have a link below all the other stuff that directs a player to the current page we have now.

The best thing i want for the site is for it to be simple, or just a tidy up and for the new player to see what the game is about and be instantly interested into it.

The Click now to play would need GCQL to be updated to support it, if i knew a bit more about the code for it, i could do it. I wouldnt recommend me doing it though.

One more thing i noticed is where am i going to get these amazing graphics from.. unless i use some photoshop.

As long as you don't use flash and stick to HTML 5 and php I will be happy.

Flash Is a pain in the arse to use.

As far as facebook goes and such.

Right now, the site is bassically a two column site, with the left column being the links and the site, and the right column being the modules. What you could do is turn the left side of the site into a third cloum, make a the links into modules like on the right(but look different).

Then you can add modules for google+, facebook, etc...(even tho there is already a module on the bottom right).

And on any other page than the home page, there is no "top" to the website. Now, while it doesn't need to look like a letter box, it could use a banner, wether it be a picture or functional, it needs something.

When I think of more or make revisions, i'll make another post.

edit:

Are the newer versions of phpBB not compatible with the older phpBB database schema? Or is the sole reason for not upgrading specifically to avoid losing custom code? I've done far more complex PHP programming, if you need help upgrading the backend i'd be happy to consult when I have spare time, just PM me information about the difficulties you are having.
