I thought I'd take a look at the new carrier cruiser, so I popped into beta and rolled one out...
I've taken a good hard look at the new model, and spent some time flying around in it. I'll divide my opinions into a list of pros and cons, and you all can take them as you will
Pros:
Good overall design.
Lighted runways with neat effects look pretty cool.
Big "ICC" decal is pretty cool.
Scale seems correct for the role the ship is intended for.
It looks like a battlestar.
Cons:
The model is pretty blocky and lacking in detail.
As well, the red and blue textures are a little overwhelming in that quantity. Somehow the missile cruiser got away with it, but its just not working on the CC.
The medusa engine handles alpha maps REALLY POORLY for some reason. Take a look at how the antenna arrays on top of the CC render in-game and you'll see what I mean. I think that they would be better if they were just mapped onto a single flat plane like on the original ship models.
Also there are also a few spots on the ship where it looks like the normals need to be flipped, because I can see straight through.
The lighting falls kind of strangely onto the runways since they lie perfectly perpendicular to any system's light source while the ship is idle.
Additionally, the overall texture quality doesn't seem that great. I think it might be that they are scaled wrong.
Anyway, I intend this post to be a helpful review, if anyone has any additional CONSTRUCTIVE criticism feel free to post.
I will sketch up some doodles of improvements I think could be made to the design.

Textures in general are a huge issue. We're still using original game art from 9 years ago. We desperately need a texture artist, but finding someone who can sit down and give us decent art work for free is... tasking, to say the least.
And yes, Medusa doesn't like alpha maps. Should be solved 'soon'.

They have been some prety good mods on www.moddb.com for sins so it probably wouldnt go a miss if contact was made with them. Afterall if they are willing to work for free this would be a big project for them

"The Toad"
it actually has a nice ring to it
on a side note the things just feel wicked to fly with not to mention the combat
Lasers fire from just the right spots.
The AR missiles seem to fire from an off angle IMO.
Why hot launch em from the top of the ship and let em "rain" down on the enemy
