I think it would be cool to put anti burst thrusters on the front of the ships while ships are stoping... it doesnt make since to be able to stop in space with no burst thrusters aka anti thrusters.

Does blockspace look like it has enough people to code that? lol

actually all it would be is a small flare from the front/sides of the ship. so basically a lil bit of coding to make it activate when you press the button to slow down i think. Over to the devs on that one.

Yes it does. Physics time!
Take from here
---
Tachyons are extremely small particles that are naked to the eye and posses extremely low amounts of mass (relative to other particles in both terms of mass and size). However, even with their low amount of mass, the sheer number of them within space creates a sort of "gravity field" that hinders movement through it. Light seems to be unaffected by this, more then likely because of the small size of the particles. This gives the illusion of "Aristotle Physics" where objects appear to want to return to rest after a thrust is applied to them. However, Newtonian physics are still correct, you just need to factor in the gravitational forces applied from the Tachyons using Dale's Constant.
Note: Some of you more learnt about your history may remember a time when ships traveling in low orbit of Earth's atmosphere or to Luna would not need constant thrust to move around. Apparently, due to some unknown reason, Tachyons never entered around the Earth and Luna space. After the Prometheus NEO asteroid incident, a large number of Tachyons were scattered about around Earth and Luna more then likely caused by the asteroids high velocity. This facilitated the eventual phasing out of oil based thrust mechanisms and the atomic fusion engines widespread usage.

*cough* taken from your pwn piece:
Ion Engines:
Ion Engines are the most commonly used engine on space faring ships today, reaching around 99% usage in all ships ever produced. They work by injecting electrons into a plasma stream usually formed out of heavy metals, and using the resulting protons created to propel the ship. Most ships use smaller versions then the main engine to turn the ship...

We don't need to see these, their not really needed to let us know our ship is stopping.

Any good pilot is looking at everything BUT his ship. Situational awareness - it trumps any flashy effect ever.

I think its a wonderful idea and any addition to make the graphics "cool" and "awesome" is exactly what we need to grab those extra people, however, devs are struggling as it is, so as said previously, its probably best that its set back to another version where the only thing we need to worry about is the graphics and not the gameplay.
Or if you can work out how to do it yourself and submit it Im sure shig'll give it a try?

I would like to take this idea bit farther... I could deal withot the flashy stopping thruster visual but what about adding a crash stop feature... It basically stops your ship cold but does a small amountof internal/hull damage...
Just think of it you are being chased by that pesky dessie/cruiser when all of a sudden that Battle Dread you been hunting stops on a dime and you shoot on past .... all of a sudden the Hunter becomes the Hunted...
Since you risk shorting out systems from the proccess it would limit it... i mean could be bad thing when all of a sudden you crash stop and your JD goes out...
Roll the dice, take a chance.. you may actually live or you may be a sitting duck.... is it worth it punk?

Nice idea, but thinking about it,
When will E-Jump damage come back ?
I always liked that feature.
