Okay this just popped up in my sick little mind...
how do we find out what a SY planet is..... we look at the Pop and the Def counts in the status window.
high pop low Def means its a good bet that is a SY planet.
so why would we the enemy know how many ppl live on that planets if it has shields how much def is present without going there at all?
i suggest that in the next version a planet in the MV will only look red to you until a scoutship has passed the planet and dropped a spy beacon on it. this will dramaticly improve the tactical essence of DS since you actally have to scout a planet b4 you attack or your going in blind.

Sounds like a good Idea, but it should be abit more thought out..
Maybe allow the enemy to see the Resources, Name, and Type of the planet (As well as the Faction)?

That's not a bad idea. Said Spy should only last a short while too.

Good idea Axi. Would give the scouts a purpose too.

Oh, one problem.. What about the MV Status link? You can see whats on the planet (If it's important), as well as everything else you'd need to know.

Just change the planet status page so it just shows the amount of resources and the faction it belongs to.

or just that it has been captured by a certain faction.
you want details bring in the scouts... the higher your scouting rank the more scout gear you can get.. advanced spy drones, spy mines for area recon, bomb target locaters etc etc.

what about high ranked? carriers could take on Scout fighters you send em to the planet and bam you got yourself a recon
just saying that the whole recon thing has been pretty low the last 2 versions... the old times 1482 in order to bomb you had to scout a planet first or get lucky you were on the right course for your target would live to see that back

My beef with planets:
Knowing Everything
The only thing any planet should so show you is what faction it is unless you put one of these "spy" things on it.
How about, make it so a scout has to be within "x" range of a planet, and has to be stay within that range and use a device for "y" number of seconds (or a "z" number of times, each time making it reveal more data). Then that data becomes faction knowledge for 30 to 90 minutes (random number)
This way, nobody would know if that fleet around a planet is a diversion, or actually defending the shipyard
I also suppose k'luth ships would need to decloak first. Perhaps it would raise their sig, like a beacon, but much much less? We're basically 'scanning' a planet for data on it....
