I think it would be good to have a heavy weapon that is energy based.
right now we only have Hweapons that are Ammo based and well if your doing a deep space mission your kinda screwed for heavy ships.
drawback on energy Hweapons = energy drain.... you run out of power even faster.
just my lil 2 cents

Use supplyships to reload ammo, problem solved.

This isn't a single player game, use a fleet, use supplies.
It also depends on the context of how you want the weapon to be used. If it's rapid firing, like some sort of cannon, then it'd be for UGTO - but if it was some sort of special torp, it'd have to be K'luth...

aye use supply, but why make all the Hweapons use ammo? dont tell me no smart bug decided to make a bigger version of the Psi Cannon?
just would like to see the option to Energy based Hweapons.. you get punished enough energy wise using them

No smart bug or HoOman decided to make a bigger version of the Psi/Rail/Particle Cannon. It actualy would make sense, and we cant have that.

Yeah, this is a military enviroment, it's not supposed to work.
But seriously, if there were heavy weapons that didn't need supplies Sup ships would be even more worthless than they already are...I mean, at least half the weapons don't need resupply, shields/organic armor (not sure on UGTO armor, it still heals itself right?) don't need resupply, unless I'm mistaken hull doesn't need resupply. Hvy weapons is all that's left...without that you'd be able to just fly to nowhere, get a meal, and come back to a 100% ship...

Armor does repair itself... but VERY VERY SLOWLY - you want a suppy unless you plan on just orbiting a planet for an hour or so...
And hull absolutely POSITIVELY needs a resupply...
Luth auto rep is the ONLY faction that doesn't need that & even then its STILL SLOW! Railguns & QST also still need ammo, and Jumpdrives.

Actually AHR does need a resupply.

AHR has 1000 units, and counts down slowly - it rarely needs supply.

On the kluth dreads, you'd be surprised at how fast that AHR gets depleted - assuming you aren't suiciding them.

AHR can be empty in 30 minutes, assuming your taking risks and hull damage without dying
