Well I was reading the Dev log and came across this little bt of text

now i may be taking this way out of context but me little mind got working like mad and this is what it made.
You fly the ship in and you get the upgrade interface.
it shows a top view of the ship and all the items that are on the ship.
Now these names can have a different type of color.
* white is for a weapon that is at 100% and thus functioning.
* red is for items that are DESTROYED *note should be bloody hard to destroy one*
* green for an item that CAN be upgraded to the next level.
Now clicking on it will produce a little box just like when you right click an item not.
It will produce a small image, text status AND this is the cool part, it will show what you can do.
-Upgrade
-Repair
-etc etc
now clicking on one of these options will show at the bottom what it would take to accomplish that task in rescources.
for instance.
I want to upgrade my Fusion Torpedo.
Now i click on the *UPGRADE* option.
the system detects it can be done and will show under the information box a new box.
It tells me that for the upgrade i will need $$ metals $$$ Hmetals $$$$$ Darkmatter $$ Hypermatter.
Now IF the ammount text turns WHITE then i have enough of it in my garage *YES you need to BUY it* if its red then i dont have enough *DUH*
a bit like when you want to pull out a ship it will tell you what you need and how much you got.
ALSO it will should how LONG it will take to do, enough said 1 item should not take to much time BUT upgrading the whole thing will take pretty long, could even be a few hours.
The devices are upgraded the same way items are built at a factory, one by one.
in the main status screen that i told up in the post you can QUE items for service.
It will only be put there if you have enough credits/metals and pressed the OK also just like the Factory. *except for the cash part*
Now what will this help do.
1) prevent ANYONE from taking out 1 fully upgraded ship out in the fight.
2) they will become precious and HURT you when you loose em
3) boost the economy system as you will need to scour the MV for metals
*not to hard now but its a start*
4) Gives US a new way to implement this great idea of upgrading.
And last and not least, it sounds just WICKED.
now one in service the ship CANT be taken out *down part* so plan it well.
Maybe let the ship stay in orbit of the SY planet while RED reload drones work on it.
In the mean time you CAN fly other ships also only 1 ship can be upgraded/repaired at a SY.
you CAN ofcourse just stock em in the SY till its safe.
im out of breath now hope it helps your ppl with some nice ideas.

I think upgrades should be instant, and only cost money.

Actually I thought the same, basicly it takes longer to build the base item, but then to upgrade you just pay money at a shipyard and boom...

Well i can see your points in this however im not suggesting it would take 1 week for the upgrades to finish.
depending on the level the component is a time would be set.... it like a refit
