Okay just a thought, but why do we have IE Drives, Regular Jump Drives, Light Armor, K'Luth Repair Drones, K'Luth Cloak, and several more, , as options to build ? To me it just seems a little "excessive" and a waste. Maybe the factory build options should be rethought and remove any items (like the ones I have listed) which come default with each faction on their ships, such as the K'luth ships all come with the cloak and drones, the icc all come with the "cheap" shields, and all the ships come with light armor and ie drives, so why "re-invent" the wheel, so to speak, and have all these usless build options 0_o

Also the star ports should have a cap of say 20 for each item, to help reduce the lag maybe ?

Not quite sure if the # of items in a starport effect the lag (maybe database size? doubtful, its just intigers in a database - nothing more).

I would venture a guess that these items exist for continuity... *shrug*

These "useless" items now will supposedly become useful again in the future. The plan is to veer away from the simple next level = better in every way to different components (especially engines and drives) acting differently, with advantages and disadvantages.

If you need to know the diffrence betwee the drives its this...

IE = Lots of hit points, low energy generation
AFE = Less hit points, a little bit more energy generation
PFE = Even less hit points, and yet again, more energy generation
AME = Few hit points, large amount of energy generation

Back in 1.480 many people used PFE to hold their ground against the old UGTO and their FLUX Dreads

Reactive shields use less energy, so if you're in an attacking fleet & have little chance of taking a beating, you can either go with reactives or turn your shields off entirely

If you're in a fleet of 8 ships vs two... the odds of you being singled out long enough to do any perminant damage before you get your shields back up are... well... astronomical I'm sure
