I always thought about making a few guidelines about Metaverse starsystem construction, these are hard-in-set numbers, however, they allow enough flexibility for the Metaverse Mapper to put variety in.

There are three classifications of starsystems, Poor, Average, Rich.

NOTE:

Common Resources: Metals, Hydrogen

Uncommon Resources: Heavymetals, Oxygen

Rare Resources: Cryometals, Hypermatter, Darkmatter, Urdanium

NOTE: Resource numbers mean how many, a Metals and Hydrogen on the same planet would count as 2.

Poor-
Desc: Poor starsystems are not really prised for. Most may not even bother with these starsystems for anything other than strategical positions and military bases. They are not very attractive to the outsiders, however, these starsystems ARE easy to obtain. But they are easily obtainable for a reason.

Appearance: 55% of Metaverse

Barren Worlds: 1-8
Arid/Ice Worlds: 0-1
Ocean Worlds: 0
Terran Worlds: 0

Common Resources: 2-8
Uncommon Resources: 0-2
Rare Resources: 0

Average-
Desc: These starsystems are common. Not as common as the poor starsystems, but common enough to take notice. These systems are usually the standard, carrying sufficient resources to contribute more than a pissants worth in the galactic economy. However, they do not carry enough resources to even hope to become overtly important, but, they are not too bad.

Appearance: 40% of Metaverse

Barren worlds: 4-14
Arid/Ice worlds: 3-6 (NOTE: Less than 3 Arid/Ice worlds allowed if one or more Ocean/Terran worlds are placed)
Ocean Worlds: 0-2 (NOTE: 2-Ocean world systems should be VERY rare)
Terran worlds: 0-1 (NOTE: 1-Terran world Systems should be VERY rare)

Common Resources: 8-16
Uncommon Resources: 4-8
Rare Resources: 0-4 (NOTE: If using four, make some redundancy in the rare resources, systems with ALL resources should be rare)

Rich-
Desc: Rich Starsystems are VERY rare, and usually are either highly prised and important starsystems, or Homesystems. CD-36, Sirius, and Sol are all Rich Starsystems. They have HUGE amounts of materials, planets, and infestructure.

Appearance: 5% of Metaverse

Barren worlds: 10+
Arid/Ice worlds: 4+
Ocean worlds: 1+
Terran worlds: 1+

Common resources: 18+
Uncommon resources: 8+
Rare resources: 6-10

GENERAL NOTE: Eccentric or odd-man-out starsystems, the mapper should give his own approximation of the level. You are not prevented from making odd starsystems. Just try to make a closest approximation of which classification it should belong to.

I would really like to see this, it would make sence, if there were a major shortage or a more heavily spread out types of resources... heck.. maybe less planets with even metals...

But I like this idea, I was thinking of something along the lines, but I like his idea more..
