A Suggestion to Make Cloak More Interesting... |

It's simple: When a ship cloaks, it still makes ambient noise (engines, etcetera), so that scouts could 'listen' (I know, there should be no sound in space, consider it some fancy sensor trick) for enemy ships... like old U-Boat hunting.

You mean.. you can turn up your speakers and hear a rumble when a cloaked ship passes you? Or scouts have a chance to see ships?
Just trying to clarify your idea here...

You can hear the ship. Those low hummings or beeps... the engine hum too. It would just serve as a sort of clue that you weren't alone, if you were wary. This would probably go with the idea of Cloak's being always a negative signature, and more energy is needed to power it as ECCM scales up.

I'd hate to put on headphones and turn up the volume like I do in AA just so I can hear if there's a cloaked ship around. Although, perhaps a slight distortion every 10 seconds...?

And TheTerminator comes in to make the final blow of logic! Sound does not travel in a vacuum! KABOOM!
Anyways i would suggest a very slight distortion in the background through a cloaked ship that way it's slightly possible to see one but not obvious.

Well, not to spoil your fun, but ever heard of this?

Maybe this applies to background noise too?

Lets make a ship wich is actually cloaked flash in cheery rainbow colors! so like this, we could pretend that we dont see it.

why would you wanna take away the only thing that kluth have goin for them? let them keep the cloak the way it is. i could care less if i can see em er not, it just gives me a chance to see how good my aiming is when i cant see what im shooting at.

Well considering the plans we have for cloak, this thread doesn't quite fit... but it was an interesting idea, and random threads are always fun.

Well, hearing one would by no means point out it's location unless you have surround sound, and even then by the time you determined it's location, they would have caught on. Chances are a fleet will not hear it over their own ships.

I thought this was a great idea, until jackswift posted, the suggestion of a slight distortion on a timed interval would be a good idea. Keep in mind that I'm a kluth player.

ship decloacking should be a warning enough. if they are not shooting who realy cares where they are.
