what would stop people from taking the inf on the Marine Frigate and dropping onto planets to be used by other ships?
Overall, good idea, except for that little problem

Maybe the bonus could be calculated the instant the Frigate loads the troops onto an enemy ship...since they would be using breaching charges...
That way, they are not some special troops that can be dropped on planets and given to other larger ships.
I guess another possibility would be to turn them into heavy infantry the second the touch a planets surface...

Sounds like Homeworld 2 to me.
the idea though is good, perhaps boost the Heavy transports in weapons so that the heavy version can double as deepspace capture ship.
perhaps remove 2 inf slots for the extra weapons.

As long as filling your ship with friendly inf still counters enemy inf..

how about a trannie for each faction that is geared towards capping ships, with tractor beams and beam weapons and maybe ecm and higher speed

Viper, that is still in effect....
Marine frigate = GREAT IDEA.... id never fly anythign else.
wow the joy of cappign stations when its not noticing the little twirp running aroudn it.......
as for the inf bonus, the computers know where the inf pods are "landing" so make all ship verbs have a distictively different code than planets..... if they already dont.... making the infantry "heavy" or "boarding inf" dependign on thier destination
