OK I've worked hard on this idea so I would really appreciate some serious consideration and feedback

I've noticed that some systems lack certain resources. I think that this should be emphasized. Someone mentioned that capturing certain systems should provide a faction bonus. In this fashion I think that we should make Urdanium, Hypermatter, and Darkmatter much rarer, and have them only appear in certain key systems.
When captured... these key systems should automatically start distributing materials to other systems via DEEP SPACE AI TRANSPORTS.
The transports would spawn in convoys of four ships from the closest properly equipped shipyard to the target destination. These frieghters would have only light, defensive weaponry, armor, and shielding. These transports would also be quite capturable...
When captured an AI transport will automatically change course and head for the nearest SY of the nearest system controlled by the team that captured it.
(Hurray for Piracy!)
When the mission systems is re-implemented, AI deep space transports should hand out defense missions missions
AI deep space transports should have 20 cargo slots, but life support for only 3 infantry units... so they would spawn with 3 green infantry units to gaurd them and have 17 cargo slots left over to haul materials.
AI deep space transports will travel on AMJ's between systems, one convoy spawning every 20 minutes and heading for the nearest friendly system lacking the special metal they carry. From that system, another convoy spawns and Brings any special materials to the nearest friendly system that still lacks them...

have desin concepts sketched... I just need to scan them

The word you're looking for is intra-system

Agree, there should be convoys to transport between systems or between planets & clusters far away from each other in-system; gives escort craft like Frigates something to attack/protect

No, intra is within, inter would be correct (international flights are between more than one country0, I think, since the idea is to have the transports go between systems.
I think it is a superb idea...they can even spawn some scouts to take up space, but look like escorts for the convoy

wait .. if the us AM jump drives what is the chance of someone actualy attacking them?? i mean how much time do they actualy spend redircting?

The basic idea is great though!!

Maybe if the tranys didnt have escort they couldnt leave thus requiring teamwork (something that Darkspace SERIOUSLY lacks)
Jsut a thought

Kat here,

OK fair enough, put them on regular jump drives... also note the fact that while in-jump their signature is fairly high, them being a little larger than cruiser size and all.

Also realize that their flight-paths are near straight lines

Number One go take a number 2
Aye Aye Captain.

I think they should carry the AMJs, the gaps in between systems is extremly large, and it sounds like they will not be using gates to travel. It doesn't seem that unfair, either, since it will also require effort to actualy capture the ships, as opposed to the slow tach drives hindering the interstellar freighters (they sound like freighters, maybe they should be called so...but its not my idea, would have to see the sketches to form a better idea).

this could add a whole new level of gameplay. imagine takign a convoy of ships for your faction........ Major pres.

also the resources in it.

one dictor, one JC, and AC and a transport. AC to batter em down a little... and get rid of its escorts (i heard the good idea of AI scout escorts).

Hey waita minut..... do i see "Escort destroyer" on the ship map things Gid put out? why yes i did. maybe an AI escort dessey. or two. to make things fun =)

NOW you guys are beginning to understand my logic... tangible supply lines between systems that could be disrupted by pirates, and/or hostile faction ambushes...
The ability to literally blockade a system will exist...

The DST's are yes, in fact more like freighters:

The UGTO version is somewhat larger than a UGTO cruiser... It looks like a cross between the UGTO transport and the UGTO light supply, and has a large rounded cargo pod slung underneath it.

The ICC version is long, and slender like a barge, with a bridge section linked to the egine pods by a long connecting spar... the Spar has latticework suspending a series of boxy freight pods.

The K'luth version, is going to be.. well take a hive, shrink it, turn it sideways, and stick a ship through it... it looks cool, trust me

you'l see I'll post concepts
