I was flying around in the MV with my newbie account laast night and decided to go cap a few planets for my faction.

So i got a tranny and some inf and then realised i was stuck in allied space.
With no Stations or Jump Cruisers around and no people interested in helping a n00b reach another system, i got stuck...

It is possible to reach 1 other system but doing so will cost you all your fuel, youll barely have anything left to use there.

So i would like to revive an old suggestion:
The Fuel tank
It costs 1000 credits and is automatically constructed at every planet that has a port and a hub.
The fuel tank icon should show a percentage of fuel still left in it.
Every time you use up fuel in your JDrive the fuel tank slowly drains and adds a certain amount of fuel to your Jdrive.

It would be nice if every fuel tank could increase your jump range by 25%.
This way people left behind, or just slow or all alone can actually reach their fleet without having to waste wormholes or supply ships that are needed in the battle.

I concur!

I envision it as a special Slot device. You run low of fuel, you replace you EcM with your Tank, and you are good to go.

OR....

A cargo item, kinda like a potion in Diablo... you click on it to use it and it drains into you fuel tank...with these long distances, we need something.

I want you give an suggestion:

Yesterday i got an Wormhole, created by an player.
It was a special one, only for me!!!!!
But it was 380 000 gus away from next system!
So i had to jump with my ead.
And you know that the jump distance from an ead is not as far as the distance that a tranny can do!
So i jumped to the next enemy system, and went to an gas giant.
You know every Gas giant has Hydrogen, so you are able to refuel
you jd, very fast!!!!!! And if there is no gas giant, you can cap a lonely
planet and refuel so your JD. That will take a while but it will work.

So i ask you now, why do you need a fuel tank?

How does one go about getting a Gas Giant if you're in deep space with no fuel...?

A tranny has a much higher jump distance and you cant tell me that a tranny isnt able to reach another system, with his JD.
I know that scout has a Jump distance about 10 000 000 gu,
and i think a tranny could have a jump distance about 1 or 2 million gu?
In which MV you playing? Are there higher distances?
Oh i know, you hate to jump over 10 min

Why did you use a Tranny?
You are Fleet Admiral!
Take a Station, you can carry more inf and you are able to ''jump'' where you want, cause you have your own Worm hole device.

The Tranny jump took about 500 seconds.
+/-1 a million Gu methinks. Only 1 system was within range, 1 Enemy system...
I reached the system with about 30 fuel left. Good luck getting to a gass giant.

As i said, i was playing with my newbie account who is only a captain and doesnt have the Silver Bomber Badge so cant fly a Jump Cruiser
Not to mention that stations are big and slow and i dont like flying them.
and the 2 extra inf really arent worth it.

Lets not also forget that most Gas Giants are surronded by planets. Enemy planets aren't going to lower their Dictor Fields and stop shooting you just because you want to refuel.

Why would anyone need Particle Cannons when we got Railguns?

Why Fusion Torps when we got Anti-matter Torps?

Why any ship other than Cruiser class?

Fuel Pods may not be necessary, but then again neither are Dreads, Particle cannons, sabots, Cl300's, Reactor 1000's, AMJ's, AMEs, PFE's, AFE's, Gauss Guns, Reactive Shields, AR Missles, Heavy Infantry, Light Transports, Light Engineers, Frigates, Jump Gates, and so on...

...but they sure would add variety.

again, start from the closest planet to your destination in the system your starting from, and plot your jumps to the closest gas giant or other planet that has hydrogen (even if its enemy held, just as long as it has little or no def) in the system you want to go to.
and be sure to bribe a kluth for a amj (if you dont have a planet with kluth tech intact)
and theres still a few gates around

I don't think the point here, Doran, is that players don't know how to refuel or lack the tactical thinking to make it across wide reaches of the Metaverse that are in enemy hands....

I think this is more of a suggestion for an additional device/modification that would allow a variety of means of getting from A to B... like a Fuel Pod.
