Just a quick thought that popped into my head, but I think that the default Habitat/Food need to be changed a tad to better fit a planet's type. I haven't thought about this for any length of time, but I think it should be something along these lines:

1) Arid - 40 Habitat space and 10 Food

Arid planets obviously have very little plant life and possibly only a smattering of small desert-adapted organisms, making growing your own food a must. On the other hand, their large, unoccupied spaces make them ideal for pre-development of colonies

2) Ocean - 20 Habitat space and 60 Food

Ocean planets are the opposite of Arid planets. While there is very little space available to live, the extremely abundant aquatic life makes food an almost second thought. Domes (in this case floating cities) would be neccesary to support a large population.

3) Ice - 20 Habitat space and 30 Food

Ice planets are somewhat like Arid planets with their almost inhospitable environment. They have less space for settlements due to extremely cold temperatures as well as volatile surface conditions (ice cracking and breaking away). But they have slightly more food due to life underneath the ice in the unfrozen water.

*Note* - Now that I think about it, that might be the way it is now. I can't check because I'm at school, but do tell me if it is

4) Barren and Terran

These two are fine. Obviously Barren types can't grow food or support life without development and Terrans are good with 60 Habitat and 60 Food (though that could stand to be increased depending on what happens with structure limits)

Wouldn't it make more sense to have the ice planets be 10 population and 0 food?

Afterall the sub-zero conditions would force all food production to be done in climate controlled hydroponic domes or something. And the surface would also be basically uninhabitable, although not a instantly lethal envoriment like a barren planet?

Iceworlds can support food just like any other. I mean, whats to say that some plants and animals that could be used as food stuffs have not developed .

I mean, look at Hoff, theres plenty of life there and its cold as hizhell
