Just a thought, but I think the easiest implementation of "advanced" DBs- and one that would be necessary for ICC to compete in 1.481- would be to seperate out the Pulse Beam defense base as an advanced item, and have ICC equipped with some version or another of the basic defense base.

This would (a) allow the ICC to shoot down infantry pods while (b) still maintaining an advanced faction-tech DB and (c) make it so basic ICC planets arn't invulnerable to all but the heaviest bombing runs.

~What? You don't like it when the bombing runs required to take a heavily shielded ICC planet end up dropping some people out of the game that forget to turn their cameras away from it?

I think it fits pretty well.

-ICC defense Effective vs. bombs, weak vs. inf
-UGTO defense Medium vs bombs medium vs inf
-K'luth defense Weak vs bombs Effective against inf

Could have Light and Heavy defense designed to destroy bombs/inf pods, but with the strain on building limits the last thing we need is More different types a structures.

Ok, correct me if im not understanding the big pictue. But what happens when the KLuth cap a ICC world and have the best of both worlds?
or does that ICC defensive ability go away when the KLuth cap it?

Well, I'm guessing, Char, that it will stay the same. As the same advantages and disadvantages will remain.
