I would like to see mines move towards ships as they pass to increase damage and the chance of someone hitting them or even if u get within 10 or 15 gus away they go boom. Now im not saying make them follow like IT missles or PSI missles give them like 2gu max spead. Maybe give them both. I dont want to see the Mines follow someone all over the MV or try and follow scouts, but this is intended for Dreds and Stations. So make them attracted to a ships mass the higher the mass the more the mines love them. If only one of these were considered I would at least like to see the mines blow if you get within a certain range other then just hitting them.
Considering the vastness of space, this could add to the realism of game play IMO. Thank You for your time.

it would be an interesting idea, but they might need to be toned down a bit... more mines hitting but doing their current amount of damage might incite another grief war

You do realize that 20 or so AM mines when detonated together have a radius of almost 100 gu?

How about a larger detection radius? Ie, you don't have the contact the mine to have it detonate, you just need to be nearby (50GU, say) And it'll automatically detonate.

Yea but only if you blow them I want them to blow on their own so if I lay a few small feilds i dont have to blow all my mines just to hit 1 ship.

you'd think all smart weapons in the darkspace universe would be pretty advanced by now.. unfortunately as a matter of fact they are all pretty dumb.
the weapon software guy who designed the tracking algorithm of the PCM, for example, should really be shot for treason. (talking ingame here)
PCMs should be REALLY smart, ITs decently smart, PSI/AR and mines should have some noticeable intelligence.
of course, someone needs to smith this out for real - since we got no weapon system developers on exathra..
but since the only one who could smith it out is F, i bet it has to wait a few more months at least..

Mines that follow and explode when ship is in proximity are on the TODO list already...
