For the upcoming fighter changes:

It would be nice if fighters would take advantage of the range of the available weapons instead of blindly flying right into PD range. Dreads would seldom be missed by shots at extreme weapons range, cruisers and smaller might require closing ot get more reliable hits. Perhaps there could be adjustable behavior such as standoff, medium and close attacks so that you could command them depending on the situation.

Currently these values are hardcoded.
It's possible to change that, however that also means that more data needs to be transferred for each fighter.

perhaps the problem can be solved by letting fighters launch in squadrons instead 1 by 1?

just send the data to a squadron and increase the reload time by 3?

allowing fighters to launch in squadrons wonder why that didn't happen in the first place sounds good

Things like squadrons for fighters hasn't happened yet, because there is a bunch of AI programming that goes along with it.

As for weapon ranges, fighters should be getting their own unique weapons. These may have shorter ranges than beams, for all we know. Nothing has been decided at this time.

Well couldnt you program the Fighter Squadron as a single AI that just looks like 12 or so fighters flying in formation? It would require information only to be sent to one entity instead of 12 and might help lag that way. Plus it would look a heck of alot more impressive than one pimpsqueak fighter exiting your ship.
