these drop tanks can be mounted on a fighter or bomber before launch these simply increase the aircrafts range but makes the fighter slightly slower (drag) assualt and interceptor fighters usually drop their fuel tanks automatically to engage enemy fighters to regain their manuverability (u can order ur fighters to ignore the enemy fighters although would be wise to have some engage the enemy fighters for obvious reasons) i don't know if this is planeed already but u should put this in beta (well alpha at first to work on it)

There is no Drag in space(atmospheric flight yes), but the added mass does matter in both cases, requiring more energy(fuel) needed for acceleration.

ok but the drop tanks carry enough fuel to eliminate the extra fuel usage thing mounting a drop tank increases increases ur fuel by 50% (150% if u put 2 drop tanks on the wings in addition to the one on the bottom)
but however adding drop tanks lower the amount of weapons u can mount on a fighter
