Not sure what race. Magnetic Mines would activate and drift towards moving enemy ships at a top speed of 5 gu/sec, using gravametric propulsion, say within a 100gu range. Once there are no ships within the 100gu range, the mines drift slowly to a stop. They are activated by large metalic masses not registering a unique carrier radio band that all friendly ships project.

Damage equivalent to normal mine damage. Propulsion system and explosive charge arm 10 seconds after being dropped.

Limit to 4 max per mine bay.
Same 10 minute timer to self destruct.

Thoughts?

Might require too much coding, but would be decisively strategic- ergo jump gates, def planets (drift towards ecm invisible or cloaked ships), etc.

So, back to the mines......

So whats the problem with them not being attracted to K'luth ships? Maybe something like this can add some of that uniqueness we crave.
