DarkSpace's VM3 server was breached on the morning of September 11th, 2019. We've confirmed that the attacker had access to the database and the file system on the server. Although the passwords were salted and hashed, we would still recommend changing your password anywhere you may have used this combination of login & password before. Furthermore, we would recommend utilizing one of the many password managers, such as LastPass, to both generate a secure password, and to store it in a secure vault for future use.
Whilst we believe we had identified the avenue of attack, web services remained offline whilst we investigated further and ensured the same method could not be utilized again. The general recommended stance regarding these types of attacks is not to discuss the method of attack further than required, and so whilst many of you may want more technical details, we, unfortunately, cannot disclose more information (for both our platform and your data's integrity).
As of the 12th of September, the database, GameCQ, and game server services have been fully restored. Whilst the website and web services stayed offline until the 8th of November, to undergo a full upgrade to plug any existing security holes, which has now been completed.
We appreciate you put faith in us to secure your data and can only apologize and do right by ensuring this cannot happen again. We apologize massively for the inconvenience caused. If you have any further queries regarding this please let us know either by email or joining our Discord. [ This Message was edited by: Pantheon on 2019-11-18 02:27 ]
