As some of you may already know, I recently met a girl...

"Uhoh!" I hear you cry. Not a GIRL?

Yes, it is true. A girl, the most nefarious of distractions, the evilness of the opposite gender. I have succumbed at last.

So let me explain.

I have known this young lady for a few years. I met her through gaming, and we had joked previously that if ever the right circumstances arose for both of us, we would meet up sometime.

This is made a little difficult, mostly because she lives near Virginia Beach, Virginia, in the United States of America, and I live near Rochester, Kent, in England. So naturally there is a little issue with being 3700 miles apart, and small body of water to deal with that kind of get's in the way.

Anyway, she recently broke up with her boyfriend of a few years as things were just not working out between them, and in a good situation financially, so she decided to get back in contact with me, and ask if I could put her up for a weekend while she takes a short break to get away from things and visits a few places around London as she is into history and the Victorian and Tudor period. I'm not tied down and can get the time off, so being a nice guy I agree.

In the next month, between me agreeing and her booking the flights, we start to get to know each other a lot better, and realize that we have a lot more in common than we first thought. One thing leads to another, and the trip becomes less about the whole London thing, and more about spending some actual time together.

The fateful day arrives, and naturally I get no sleep due to the usual guy thing of leaving all the cleaning and tidying to the last minute.

I get up to the airport to collect her, and we get to actually see each other properly for the first time. The poor girl is exhausted; being claustrophobic and a little ADD, the flight wasn't particularly easy for her.

I won't go into details, but lets just say that the weekend doesn't quite go to plan as we seem to be getting up late. She loses her camera, and decides that she wants to delay her flight back an extra day to try and find it and because she doesn't really want to go home.

With much sadness she eventually flies home; we never do find the camera.

In the following week we talk a lot more, and both decide that we want to see each other again, this time for a bit longer than a weekend. So just over a month later, back she comes.

This time we are more realistic in what we want to get done, knowing that our, umm, tendency to be, uhh, late for everything due to us getting, uhh, distracted will get in the way.

This time we manage much better, although there were a few small issues such the airline forgetting to put her luggage on the flight, and it arriving two days later, but overall we had a great time, again. If anything, it just helped to confirm everything that we learned from the first trip.

So now I am moving, as I need to cut costs and save some money in order to fly over to Virginia. It's my turn to do the visiting.

We are currently planning on about two weeks in either late October or early November. She won't be able to get more than a few days off work during this time as she recently started a new job, but that's not a huge problem for me> So long I have a laptop and internet access I can keep myself occupied.

I don't drive, so this needs to be taken care of within the next six months, but the long-term plan is for me to actually move over to America. Getting a work Visa is probably going to be the biggest hurdle, although there are a few options that we can pursue, some of which are more ideal than others.

So this is why I have been absent recently. A lot of big changes in my life mean that I can't spend the time on DarkSpace that I used to. There is still much I want to get done here, but I am forced to let it take a backseat for a while until I can get the issues with my current circumstances sorted out and settled down.

As for DarkSpace itself, keep up the good work and keep playing. It wouldn't be here without the enormous amount of effort that we have all put into it over the years.

Many thanks,

Drafell.

Knew this was coming (what with the same happening to me a year ago).

I wish you all the luck in the world mate (although you already knew that) .

Also, we need another meet sometime before you do move to America!

I, too, enjoy terrible postmodernism and philosophical arguments on semantics that are reduced to trivialities by modern biology and psychology.

*chuckles* The only thing I can reasonably say in response to this is "congratulations".

Welcome to the states, bro! Hopefully she's the one for you, and you two have a long happy relation ship of being late to things. I expect little Draffel's running around America soon enough, misspelling and leaving spaces out of everything they do.

For science.

no no now, see whats really happening is due to the economic downturn, Darkspace and Palestar have been forced to consolidate the administrative staff. The girl friend cover story would never hold up under scrutiny so we decided to come clean.

Yes thats right, in an order to curtail costs we are closing all of our foreign offices and recalling all of our Admin's state side.
