Sens, half the bands you named are from long before the 80s....

Best 80's band on stage is a lil bland,. as Best 80's Band and Best Band on Stage should be two completely different topics just to serve the bands some justice,. but,. Midnight Oil,. (is that even 80's?) is no.1 on stage,. top bands are personal biased picks

People, just 'cause a band had albums out in the 80s doesn't make it an 80's band... lol. Check & see when first albums were released for some of these guys... Aerosmith? 80's? Try 60's.

What's wrong with you all??? How could you forget Billy Idol? Billy Idol was by far THE king of the 80's.
FYI: The only thing Jackson was ever the king of was perscription drugs. That freak won't decompose for another century yet.

Def Leppard in 1989 at the NEC in Birmingham, had a revolving centre stage it was awesome.
Depeche Mode
not a band but Jean Michel Jarre at Docklands in the rain was ace.

The problem with this thread is that all music from the 80s was terrible. There was some nearly decent stuff, but it is either lumped in with the 90s when the bands that made them became more known or just completely drowned out by the rest of the other terrible, terrible, faux-music.

It would have to be an 80's band, that played 80's music, right?
Like, as in;
Flock of Seagulls
Duran Duran
Tears for Fears
Depeche Mode
Butthole surfers
Dirty Rotten Imbeciles
The Police
and many other, cotton candy hairsprayed hair groups.
The winner would be the Police, tho. Being OLD, I remember the Countdown to 1990! on the radio for the New Years kickoff. The number one voted on song of the 80's was
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxdrumrollxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Every Step You Take, by The Police!
personally never liked them. I was more a Depeche Mode, Tears For Fears fan I guess.
Of course, you have to factor in that rap really found it's own as well in the 80's. If you want longevity of influence in music, I'd have to say Run DMC was the biggest of the 80's groups.
After all, we laugh at Whip-It! but kids still listen to beatboxxing morons.

Tough choice on best 80s band to ever be on stage. I'm leaning towards Metallica and Van Halen, but there's a lot of really good 80s bands that had great stage shows.
And sorry Babyfark but 80s music is pretty much the best music ever. So diverse and so much fun! Sure beats the grunge and hiphop crap that took over the 90s. Over 80% of my music collection is 80s, with the rest being a small mix of pre-80s and some 90s (and my 90s music is mostly Pantera and dance/techno). I even ripped Vice City's radio stations so I can listen to them.
And with that I go back into lurk mode
