Just saw it on the IMAX.
Not bad, but not all I was hoping for... Played a little to heavy on some of the comic relief.
While its a good movie, I don't see it doing as well as they are hoping it will in theaters... Especially with several big movies coming out right after it.
And sadly, the "time travel" thing in Startrek is way over played and really soured me on the new movie...

I thought it was fantastic. The green babe, the red suit, the "reverse the polarity"-ism, and the admirable things done by Scotty that get ignored (a nod to the real situation with the original?), downright awesome.

star trek 11 is easily the best one. it needs a follow up, ST 12.

Even before ST 11 hit theaters, Paramount commisioned writers for ST 12. JJ Abrams agreed to produce the next movie but has not agreed to direct it yet.
ST 12 is due out May 2011

I saw it the other night. Personally, I loved it. Without spoiling anything (as best I can) I think it did right by the original series in its own way. It was written well enough to give the Trekkies some tidbits others might miss, but it also looks like it would appeal to non Trekkies. I'm not a Trekkie mind you, but I guess I'm a bit more versed then some. I guess I fall between the average joe that knows it exists and someone that follows it alot, lol.
Eitherway, I guarantee that Star Trek item sales are sky rocketing as we speak, lol. I even bet the DVD sales for the original series will rise dramatically.
A very entertaining movie that never felt like it was slow, and never made you wonder "Where are they going with this?" (in a bad way, haha).
The comic relief was welcome, in my opinion it was a way to make the usual boring "lets learn about the characters" moments less like other movies. I hate movies you sit through the first half hour as they set it up and your bored because nothings going on yet. It kept you entertained while still setting up the motives and back story to each character.
Well, theres my opinion. I honestly went in not expecting too much which may have helped. I didnt over-hype it for myself. I'm certain some Trekkies will hate it because of, whatever excuse they can come up with, but it was a very good movie for bringing more people into the Star Trek Fanbase that wouldnt have wanted to see the older movies.

I still stand by the writers were to lazy... Every version of Star Trek has had time travel (even the movies) and they risked changing some insignificant thing and changing the future they know...
But the problem was they went way overboard with time travel laced plot lines in both Voyager and in Enterprise to the point it began alienating fans. The whole time travel paradox thing was played out and over done.
As it was a prequel they had a lot of lienency in fleshing out the characters in unique and interesting ways while meshing with the established history of Star Trek.
Instead we got this...
Writers Workshop day one.
"So how do we tweak the characters and their associations without all the fans crying foul."
"Hmm..."
Brainstorming.... 2 seconds later, "We just have a time travel paradox that wipes all that out..."
"Great! Lets break and after lunch will figure out the rest of the movie..."
We'll in 2 years, summer of 2011, we'll see what they do next, time travel back to stop themselves from taking the last two humpback whales?
