Well obviously its easily transmitted, and we have little to no immunity against it. I'm failing to understand why this strain seems to only be taking lives in Mexico, and only one small child in the United States...

And yet, how many people die a year from the good ol'fasion regular flu...? 3,000-5,000 a year? Whats the difference?

from what i understand the reason its taking lives in mexico is because of the poor hygine and living conditions down there and the reason the child in texas died was because a kids immune system isnt as strong as a teenagers or adults is.

The one small child it took in the US was actually from Mexico. His family brought him to the states because he was sick and wanted to get him help.
Its being over blown as usual. The news thrives on sensationalism. Anything that scares you will make you tune in to them and drive up their ratings. Pfft. Cant catch it playing DS. So everyone get in the MV and bomb Earth...

I have to say, when i last talked to a friend who works at the lvl 5 virus facility here in Winnipeg, MB, Canada, he didn't sound to impressed or even worried. If a guy who works with things that could wipe out half the world population in a matter of hours isn't concerned with something, it's either really, REALLY bad, it's it's absolutely nothing.
I happen to go with option "B".
I just find it funny how quickly this scenario has been played up to the point of global panic in a matter of hours...

Guys I fell down the stairs and I heard a crack and then there was this white jagged thing sticking out of my arm. It this the swine flu?
In all seriousness, the WHO stopped calling it the swine flu. Its name is H1N1.

They trying to call it or rename it to novel flu so it does'nt start a frenzy and people stop buying bacon/pork and hurting the pig/meat trade.
Quote:
| Ms Vassiliou said the EU would from now on refer to the outbreak as "novel flu" to avoid any misleading link with pigs or the pork industry.
She said that was a "wrong connotation". Experts say there has been no sign of any direct link with pigs. |
