Most of you know I have been working on a gravity simulator for quite some time now.
Today, I made another step towards simulated solar systems. I got 2 stable planets. I have had 2 planet situations arrise from the chaos before, but usually after a couple of minutes one would toss the other into the 'sun'. This time, these planets persisted in stable (unchanging) orbits for several minutes. It remained stable for about 15-20 minutes while I filmed it and uploaded the videos. Then, the little planet got slung into the sun by the big planet and an unfortunately close pass.
I filmed it with Fraps. I used a new function (tracker) to show the movements of the second planet, which is a bit too small to make out in the recording.
First System
The key to this new step? I found the gravitational constant to be too low. It made things slow enough to observe but the gravitational force was too weak to hold planets. Increased it by a factor of 10.
Next big step: stable planet with a stable moon.
Interesting side note: if I make this new strong gravity repel, and tell the particles to fall, they form a kind of cloud, levitating most of the particles. Then, dropping a large particle into the fluid-like pool gets a pretty cool splash. Ill show a vid of that some other time.
Interesting side note 2: when I lock the camera on a planet, and leave the Tracker on the other planet, I see its path the way the ancients of earth saw planets. It does unpredictable spirals and crazy swooshes from the perspective of the other planet. Ill definately have to show you guys a vid of that later. Forget that! Video of this cool effect now: Retrograde Effect
EDIT: Gimme a few minutes. Their links arent working.
EDIT: Vids appear to be working now.

did you factor in geomagnetic fields?, could be a MAJOR missing factor .
Whats the app your using "is it homebrew"?, you should send me it, we could compare results.
