Well I was reading my star wars books because I’m that cool when I got an idea... instead of having interdictor bases on planets, why don't we just give them all mass shadows depending on their size? it would put an interesting effect in navigation and strategy. anyways just an idea, it may be dumb it may be ultra spiffy just wanted to know what everyone else thought about it.

You mean like when they block sunlight, like they already do ingame?

no a mass shadow is like a gravity well. it makes you unable to jump safely in said shadow, doing so can cause heavy damage to a ship or even death.
would be interesting no jumping in a cluster or jumping planets.
small planet would have small zones were noboy can jump... would put an interesting twist on things

Kind of like in the Halo Universe, being close to planets inhibits jump drive's capability to achieve ftl because of the 'warped space time.'
Maybe K'luth should be able to jump like Covenant.
Or maybe just stick with dictors, idk.

well have dictors aswell but planets having those shadows would be interesting
keeps any ship from jumping as long as its near it.
what ship ( if this was in rl) would survive jumping from one orbit to another in about 5 nanoseconds... (exa to its moon)

hmmm good idea it makes a crapload of sense and infact instead of just planets we shud get rid of dictor cruisers becuz all they do is ruin the game and makes every enemy aswell as half the aliies of the dictor leave and go do sumthin else for the rest of the day

Yes! Lets make planet camping even easier!
No.
Having a basically imbuilt dictor on every planet (which it literally is) will kill alot of the action around planets. Who wants to fight in a zone where its impossible for ANYONE to get away? The only one with the advantage is the faction that owns the planet, clusters would be nightmare.
Not to mention that it means everytime we wanted to jump to a planet would have to get out of the 'shadow' and jump. No deal.
Infact, perhaps the only good thing this would achieve, is that we wont be able to accidentally jump into planets anymore.

well hey >_>... howable you CAN jump in the shadow however it causes damage to whatever side decides to jump.. the damage is based on ship size + planet size + jump speed
so a station jumping would get ownt near a large planet like mycropia
smaller ships (scouts/frigates) can still jump into and out of the shadow with little dammage but there is still damage

ya I see wer u guys are going but I don't want 484 to be even later than it is now
and it also brings in even more of a threat to us bomberz its already pretty hard to bomb a 18 defence shielded planet with beams on all sides and ther are dreads atkin u but now if lets say I was bombin luth and a mandi jumped right out side of shadow while I'm 200 gu from the planet ill already be lik 75% dead from the defenses and then all the beams and then I hav to deal with a dread with no escape from pres loss ill be a lil pissed considering that on every run I will die espiacily if the planet is shielded soo this all leads back to the fact that everyone without a dread gets slaughtered.

spellchecker is your friend.
on a side note, you wont be able to bomb on your own any more so start learning how to fight of when 404 hits it wil hit you like a reinforced concrete wall with spikes. you WILL get demoted faster than you can say ow.
besides the masshadow wont be big. im talking >400 gu for he realy big planets its nto a dictor range for small ones. it just keeps people in orbit from jumping out of orbit without some side effect
