gotta question....
was reading specs of my pc on compaq. it says up to 1 gig of memory but ive gone to a few retail sites that have memory scanners and some of them say that my pc can handle 2 gigs. so would my pc work if i put 2 gigs in or not?

In your case trust the people who manufactured it, rather than some "software scanners" that scan for memory...
EDIT: if you really must know for sure, call compaq.
