Yes yes. I seem to ask these alot around here. maybe if Faustus started to charge money for the communitys ability to help people with their internet problems...

anyway, here is my predicement: I wish to share files between two computers. Yes, I know, shocking.

here's how the computers are set up:

My computer is hooked up by ethernet to a router. this router is wireless. the router is hooked up to my modem, which in turn is hooked up to a series of tubes.

My brothers computer is wirelessly hooked up to the router.

Is their anyway I can share files between these two computers with my current set up? thanks.

It should be very easy to do already - right click the folder the files are in & goto Sharing & Security - then click on the Sharing tab - it should give you instructions on how to share. Some folders you can share outright by clicking a box, some have to be dragged into the My Shared Folders file under My Computer.

I think....

Option B) Install Kazaa on both computers & hope for the best

I did that share thing, it doesn't work.

for whatever reason, I cannot ping my brothers computer.....this is probably the source of the problem (The ROuters internaL firewall blocks PINGS, I turned it off, still didn't work)..

edit: I Can now ping. However, I still canot transfer files. #($*#(

Not sure if this will help but I'm having a similar problem, I have the same type of set up (wireless router, all comps connected to the internet via that wifi)

This type of set up is not the same as a computer network, that much I know, therefore you can't (as far as I know) share files over it without setting up an actual network

You don't want to be asking me about setting up a network though, last time I tried all the comps in our house ended up with no internet for about half an hour before I fixed it

All I can tell you is that you need to find some way to set up a wireless network in addition to your wireless internet connection...hope that's somewhat helpful
