Okay so I have a fairly good laptop, well the best computer in my house with a 2GHz AMD 64 Athlon processor and am thinking 512MB of ram is good enough for DS and my ITunes music player. but alas DS alone is too laggy by itself so I just dealt with it and found out DS alone takes up over 300MB of ram by itself so I dealt with the lagg for months with the horrible lagg when you first select a ship etc... so I bought a 1GB memory card for my laptop and WOW 512 MB ram to 1.25GB of ram is a big difference. For the ones looking at me with a funny face i had two 256s' in there and replaced one with 1 GB.

That isn't lag. Do not be confused by what Troy's saying.
His machine was probably a bit low on the memory side. DarkSpace is set to use as many resources as possible to make the experience smoother (cacheing all the textures - etc). Even with my 8GB of memory, it takes almost up to about 5GB sometimes (If I've been ingame for a lengthy amount of time), and it will always use 99% CPU, unless you specify otherwise.
Also, the amount of memory you have doesn't really matter most of the time, but the speed of the memory module can make a huge difference.
