Following a scintillating lobby conversation regarding planetary building I began to wonder. Just what is the correct plural form of Cortex Nexus?
Some may say Pants you fool! It is clearly Nexus's. But this is not correct, unless you are refering to something owned by the cortex nexus, like say a scientist.
Otherms may chime in Nexus'! But this is not correct! It is the correct way to refer to something possessed by multiple cortex nexus, but it is not the way to pluralize nexus itself.
After a heated discussion, which strained several friendships, we have boiled it down to the following possibilities.
1) Like moose, when you have more then one nexus, or moose, then you still have 4 moose, or 4 nexus.
2) Nexuses. It seems like it may be right, but it doesn't exactly roll of the tongue now does it?
3)Nexi. Like Cacti.
Please friends, weigh in with your opinions on this "weighty" matter. *chuckles*

Lol...dictionary says it's either of the two you said, Nexuses or Nexus...I'd personally prefer Nexti  . Best post I've seen this week

It comes from the past tense of nectere, to bind.. "nex-" so its actually a verb form. I'm not sure what declension of noun it is, though, once it gained a noun form, since that's what we're talking about. In fact, given the inflected forms shared by Ramius, it may not have ever been a noun in Latin, and thus gained its plural with english rules. Or, its fourth declension, in which case the plural is still nexus - like Ramius's definition gives us.

With a bit more searching, it apparently was a funny kind of verb that I'm not qualified to describe but basically works out to being a 4th declension noun.
Thus, plural would be nexus as well - but the u has a macron over it, making it a long vowel (those who have had latin will hopefully understand).
The problem is, of course, that you can gather whether you mean singular or plural only from context, as the word only differs in pronunciation, not spelling.

Cortex Nexuses is the only one that works. If you say anything else you are stupid.
