This isn't really related to DS, but then again, that's why it is in the soap box.
Anyways, I want some help suggestions from the friendly players at DS. My Homeworld 2 game unexpectedly shuts down whenever I: a.) Start the 2nd mission in the singleplayer game, b.)Sometimes when I join an internet game, and c.) When I play CPU vs. Player (game runs for a bit, then just quits)
I have repeatedly reinstalled Homeworld 2, and nothing has changed. I took Rend's suggestions, defragmented my hard drive, and did a virus scan. Nothing obvious happened. Also, my game works fine on my cousin's system, but not on mine. And no, I will not destroy my computer, or bash the monitor in, which was the response I got from the Homeworld 2 lobby. -.-
So can someone please help me correct this problem? It's really aggravating and frustrating, because I like this game and want to play it.

Might be a heat problem. Try opening up the case and cleaning out the chip cooler with a small brush and a can of compressed air. Do the same to your powe supply just with air, don't open it or use a brush inside it. You might allso invest in a 80mm case fan or two or bigger depends on the case though.

Lol. And no, my vid card seems good enough. Sometimes a game will work, and I'll be able to play through it. Not the singleplayer though. :

I don't think its something physical at all, especially if you have isloated it to mission 2.
What things changed from when you last attempted mission 2 and it executed correctly? (length of time away from PC, new software or hardware installed, any other errors minor glitches. minor hard drive failure that scandisk fixed, adware on your PC, etc...)
Post what Motherboard, Video Card (brand too), Hard Drive, OS you got.
Oh, and what error if any you get, even though I don't think you got one. Even check the log file for HW if there is one, which might give you an error code or something meaningful.

You can exess the lobby. But you can't play homeworld 2 on SP? the game REQUIREMENTS of homeworld two is rather low. But for optimum performance, the game does require a lot of space on your hard disk and video card.
My old computer had the minimum requirements of HW2. It could play but it was loading at a 1sec/frame per second rate.. I think the problem lies with your hard disk not having enough mem or video card.
Anyways, if u ever get onto the HW2 lobby. Look out for me. I'm Progenitor.
P.S. i find your text signature rather disturbing

Gimme the video card make and model
Would also help if you knew your motherboard make and model, and sound card.
My first guess would be if it ALWAYS crashes on the second level, the game didnt install properly, or a bit of your harddrive is de-indexed.
Oh, what version of windows are you running?
Also download and install the patch, problems fixed by them you know .

Ok. Steam, mission 2 has NEVER executed correctly. And my computer is I think a Dell Pentium Proccessor, with an integrated vid card.
Im not sure of the Motherboard though. But, I can sometimes play an internet game all the way through. More often though, it fails. Sometimes it works, most times it doesn't.

I see your problem, its REALLY clear..
..
Dont want any problems? dont go Dell.
the ammount of problems i've had from Dell pc's is uncountable.
Intergrated Video = Not good atall, it shares system Ram. The mobo's they uses are about stability.....for word processing, you wont get a game running that well on a Dell machine atall :/.

Kit-
Right click the desktop, go to Properties. In the Display properties window, go over to the tab on the right called Settings. If it doesn't say what card you have, click on Advanced and go to the Adapter tab. Tell me what it says EXACTLY, leaving out no information. It should have:
Adapter/ Driver Information
Manufacturer:
Features:
Software Version:
(You can leave out the Current Files part)
Go to the Performance tab, and move it back to the left so it says:
Basic Accelerator Functions. That should be the second to last one over.
Try that, and make sure you have DirectX 9.0b, unless 9.0c is available and I am a noob. I will check to see if their are never versions of your video driver available, and DirectX. I can go to the HW2 site and see if this is a documented problem that has a fix, but I would appreciate it if you did that just to see AFTER posting the above info.
Thanks,
Steamrunner

Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Adapter: Intel 82865G
The rest I don't know.

You can find out video and display properties as well as other info by clicking Start > Run > and typing dxdiag in the run box.
Yes, there is a directx 9.0c.
I agree integrated video isn't the best option, but not all Dell's suck, backy lol

Well Kit, knowing your OS would have been nice. I am going to see where you can get newer drivers for your onboard video, and maybe a new version of DirectX if the one you have is too old. It's not likely you will need the DirectX, but its worth a shot, since I am thinking the issue is video related.
I will come back and edit this post, putting the links to the pages here for you. If updating your video card stuff doesn't work, there may not be too much more I can do like this. I would need to have a chat over AIM or whatnot with you, because I am unable to get the information I need to help by asking you here and not getting it.
Ok, here are the links:
Intel link for your chipset:
http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intel865g/
Link from Intel site to Microsoft if you have a version of Directx older than 9.0c
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.asp
The only incompatibility on Intel's site for Homeworld was with displaying stars in front of 3d objects, which is irrelevant.
I suggest you note what version you have of your video driver, and try to go to DELL's site to get a new one, IF there is one. If not, you can use an Intel driver, but make sure you follow the instructions or have someone else knowledgable do it with/for you.
NOTE: I feel that your issue is with your onboard Intel video chip somehow, and so am suggesting a chipset and DirectX driver update, in that order. This is because you have tried most other things and failed. If it is your Intel chipset drivers and/or DirectX causing the issue, doing this should fix it, and if not, then that eliminates video from the problem (pretty much). Update the drivers at your own risk-I do not want to be liable for any issues that arise as a result of it. Just a disclaimer. =o)
Good luck Kit-I think there is a decet chance of it solving the problem. Maybe someone else knowledgable can post their opinion as well.
UPDAYTE: On the HW2 site, there is a 1.1 patch. You probably already have it installed, but if not, you might want to try that first.
