Ok, time for another update....

My next task, is simply to fix the ship spawning issue... that will be in the very next update, expect that later this week or next week.

I've decided to release the source for Medusa and GameCQ. So I expect to fix up the palestar website soon, and put both those up for download and purchase. I'm going to follow the garage games model, and license either for $99, or both for $150 for non-commercial applications (i.e. under 5000 copies sold). Then offer a commercial license which will start at or around $999, and 5% royalty.

In addition, I plan to re-factor the GameCQ lobby into a taskbar application (i.e. steam) so content/games will be automatically downloaded and installed without having to run an installer.

We will offer a lobby to any games developed by independent developers, so that they will have a distibution method other than having to find a publisher to push their games on the store shelves. In other, words Palestar is going to become more of an online publisher of 3rd party games.... using the GameCQ technology.

Anyway, I'm pretty excited about all this... I think it's a good direction to head, and may have the potencial to make Palestar finanically viable again.

-Richard

Sounds neat, though I'm not to thrilled about the auto-download thing for some reason.

Uh oh I saw the steam word! who's been playing too much CS .

Hope this all goes well, sounds like a really good idea, I hope GCQL will get a revamp so it looks all nice and sparkly. Maybe thats something the DS community can come up with?

Cant wait for 1.483 now, sounds like its going to be a real scorcher after what Gideon said .

Good luck Faust!

Don't suppose you'll let out the DS source along with the GCQL ^.^

I can use the source to Medusa and GCQL. Is the source code going to be free and the license will cost money or will you have to buy the source and the license?

Medusa is just the engine. It allows you to make any kind of 3D game.

From what I read, Antdizzle, the source code for Medusa or GCQL will cost $99 separately and $150 for both.

As I understand it, Medusa is the 3D engine for DS.

Which, from reading the Palestar site, seems to be totally logical to license to the public. I'm kind of surprised it hasn't been before now.

DS itself consists of much more than Medusa.

Does Medusa include the netcode/server-client model of darkspace? It's possibly the most valuble aspect of the game, especially the distributed server tech. Even new games like vendetta havent got this far.
A nice feature list would be appreciated, when you have the time of course Faustus.

I have a question - does this mean that we are allowed to code in a custom version of DS using our own ship designs (obviously we can't use any ST or SW ships or anything - as they are copywritten) and run a modded version of the game using these designs and weapons & whatnot? Or are you extending your "No modding" thing to cover any uses of Medusa?
