I've been very busy the last few days with a MAJOR overhaul of the interface...
whats changed, you ask?
- Context senstive help... hit F1, then move your mouse over different parts of the screen to get context senstive help.
- New font... much nicer, and much easier to read.
- The parts of the interface can now be hidden/shown with the click of a button.
- Popup menus... new button menu at the bottom of the screen with buttons for all the major ship functions...
This all should be going into beta tomorrow, check it out, I think it blows away the current interface.
No hotkeys have changed, so no re-learning for anyone FYI..

Can we pretty-please-with-sugar-on-top get a way to remove all the targeting squares and triangles? That would make taking quality screenshots SO much easier.

Very, very cool Faustus.. I've love those new target reticles, so I'm guessing I'll like any new changes you're throwing in.
And nice, Zurai.. I've been lobbying for that myself.. Nice to have some backup.
/me can't wait for beta and a whole new look at DS...

yeah, it would be nice to disable all the radar points for screenshots and the like. the new changes sound really cool, especially the ship-part-area-mouse-thinger

i had a more thorough look and the time to actually do a bit of beta testing.
generally a big improvement but i brought you back some work too:
- the TacCam mode should have a hotkey and its own camera distance stored if possible. if not just zoom out in tcacam mode.
- the font:
in 800x600 its terribly blocky. in 1600x1280 its terribly small.
in ship system icons its covering the icon sometimes.
generally im not so sure if i still like the font after looking at it longer it seems to become less readable
- more readability stuff: in F2 the new font greatly reduces readability of contact names and distances due to less transparent areas in it being covered with lines and icons. suggested fix: display contact name and distance in a different distinct color.
- with the new interface option to undisplay a console, having a shield/armor status bar in the upper right console (like the ones for hull etc) would make a lot of sense.
- the chatlog has a major problem with scrolling (doesnt work at all). needs fixing.
- clicking on "display contacts" should remove only ship contacts and leave on the display of planet contacts to make it useful. removing the whole console has almost the same effect as it is now and ship contacts tend to be the ones that are "in the way" since planets are on the side. (maybe have option for both and move ship contacts to the left if planet contacts is turned off. now that would be great.)
- the text line wrapping in the main view should be improved to fit the actual screensize. in 800x600 lines now go beyond, and in 1600x1280 they rarely cover half.
