i use google sketchup too but for a whole other project
some of you remember sceenshots like these:
http://www2.filehost.to/files/2007-01-01_02/154516_trident_in_sol.jpg
just a plain pre model with textures and stuff.
now working on a much more detailed model
crurrent body section is 785m(2575 feet) long, over 150m(500 feet) high (brigde has to be made) and 312m(1023 feet) wide
as you have deducted its being made 1:1 scale.
just to give an idea the file weights 3.11 mb, the premodel with textures only 557 kb.
so theres much detail in it, its still rought and has lots of sqaures but gonna work it out, just remember i'm doing this for fun and i'm a amateur in modeling, but its a learning progress and it wont be rdy soon.

its real easy to use, you just draw lines, strech here and there, apply a little paint and voila

That is only cruiser sized. Dreadnoughts are 1,300 - 1,600 meters long. See the [url=http://beta.darkspace.net/index.htm?module=document.php&doc_id=13&chap_id=674&chap_name=2.3]Ship Design Document[/url for a few more details.
