For example, Dreadnought ally? I'm not too sure what it is. Is it a ship that follows you around and helps out in combat?

u dont get to know their secrets without buying them
buyy !!!
ok ill tell u anyway, ally enhancements spawn a friendly ship of the given class (say dread) but of random model. so one time it may give you a mandible and another time you would get a ganglia.
ally ships follow you around, listen only to you and undock/launch from shipyards along with you. they last for 1 hour and can be used by anyone (so a midshipman with a few thousand credits can keep spawning station allies to make an army. i havent seen this happen though...it would be evil) [ This Message was edited by: Brahmastra on 2011-08-16 10:11 ]

It gives you an ai which follows you around for a bit than either vanishes, flies to no where or flies into a planet.

btw
did they change the wh to a normal jumpdrive ?
ai is unable to use it, and ally-stations had to go ...crawl... to their target at sub-light the last time i checked (a good year ago)

WH can be swapped out for a JD or vice versa at a planet with a lot of res such as a shipyard planet

these ai will not go to a gate and vanish, and their ai had been improved a long ago to reduce their chance of running into a planet while in combat.
as a kluth you can use these ai to scout enemy systems, carry repair drones and build drones for planet conquest, provide heavy firepower and meatshield you from other ai, increase rate of planet capture...
in case there is a transport ally enhancement, you can use 2-4 of them to rush a planet with infantry. load them with raze infantry and watch that civilization go to ruins.

yes the new layouts of the stations also apply to ally stations, so rejoice as they feature the all-powerful HMA drives. [ This Message was edited by: Compromisery on 2011-10-07 02:28 ]

Use em all the time...but I'm a Mod and can ONLY rely on AI allys to have my back. They are dumb as forest gump, but help me get out of sticky situations when the enemy says "KILL THE MOD!!!!!!!!!" and my FACTION says "Let the mod die". Mostly I use Dread allys and Suppy allys, some cruisers too.
Bar none the best enhancement for Staff players.

.....Yeah I have to agree with Feral on that one, I've seen it happen from ICC and UGTO perspective both. Usually if I'm on ICC and he logs in he'll usually be primary target, and the few times I've seen him on while I'm on my UGTO account people generally don't bother to help him when he gets jumped.
